Fun film to watch. I love the old B&W films so this was right up my alley. This is the first movie I have seen where Lucille Ball was so young and I thought she was beautiful. The year was 1939 so it was before she met Desi. One thing that struck about this film is that everyone, even the murderer HAD MANNERS. They were decent to the people they met, not like the world today. The screenplay is by Dalton Trumbo (before he was blacklisted by Hollywood) and is rather good (written almost 70 years ago). I hope they produce a DVD of this film. Hey Techncolor Tessey, you never looked more lovely!!!! check it out

I remember watching this film when i was 9 or 10 back in the late 50's or early 60's after mt father went to work and my mom was asleep. There have been three or four spin offs to this great film that don't even come close.I don't no for sure but it seems that they left something out of this makeover. It doesn't matter this is a five star movie, that i rated four because i was stupid and hit the four star and it won't let me change me it.

VHS : The Saint: In New York/Strikes Back
Hayward did New York. A nice double feature with "Strikes Back" starring George Sanders on the same tape. Robert Osborne even does an intro. for TCM. Mr. Hayward is pretty good & I admit he puts me in mind of James Bond more than Mr. Sanders. He's cruel & charming, kills with cool dispatch, yet he is still one of the good guys. The Law is ambivalent about The Saint/Simon Templar. He is somewhat of a Robin Hood in that he steals from criminals, helps law enforcement but takes a cut for himself. In dispair New York City hires him (in secret) to rid itself of criminal gangs that control the city & are corrupting the courts. He has a list of gang bosses & goes to work. Some die easy some not so. He falls in love with the moll(Kay Sutton) who saves his life (twice).
Mr Sanders takes over in the second movie ... Read More

"Choose an unimportant day" is the advice her mother-in-law gives Emily, newly arrived at the land of the dead, when she decides to return to the world briefly in Thornton Wilder's incomparable classic. Emily chooses her 12th birthday to return to earth and finds even that day all too painful and quickly leaves Grover Corners to be with the dead. This heartbreaking scene still makes my eyes burn as the play remains powerful, having survived countless high school productions. Paul Newman as the stage manager gives a brilliant performance. Some of his lines must have been poignant for him: "You wake up one day and you are 70." He is now old, over 80-- but he has aged well-- and venerable but still a fine actor and a perfect choice to head this production, originally produced at the Westport Country Playhouse and later moved to Broadway. In commentary that accompanies the ... Read More
