My five year old grandaughter really got into this book. I think this was much better than the original"The Rescurers". It teaches children to respect animals.

VHS : Dark Command (Colorized)
After Wayne hit the jackpot in John Ford's groundbreaking Western STAGECOACH (1939) he was quickly reunited with his co-star Claire Trevor in ALLEGHENY UPRISING (1939) and again here in the DARK COMMAND (1940). Directed by Raoul Walsh, the man who incidentally gave young Michael Morrison his first starring role as a very young "John Wayne" in THE BIG TRAIL (1929) but it was a box office failure and Wayne was relegated to mainly B-Westerns until rescued by John Ford.

The fact based story is from the period starting just before the outbreak of the American Civil War depicting growing tensions on the Kansas Missouri border leading up to the infamous William Quantrill and his guerrillas burning down the town of Laurence, Kansas on August 21 1863. Based on the novel by W R Burnett Will Cantrill ... Read More

'nough said - one of the greatest custom combining movies ever. Probably one of the only ones too...but it still brings tears to my eyes when I see the combine derby.

VHS : Gig, The
This little gem turned out to be one of those rarities that myself and my late wife watched again and again.
Being a 'gigging' Blues & Jazz singer myself, it reminded me so much of the realities of life on the road. Those times were a hell of a lot of fun, but they were also fraught with anxiety and troubles.
Would the gig still be there when you arrived after travelling many miles - sometimes they weren't!
Would the accommodation be fine - sometimes it wasn't!
Would the money be there at the end of the night - sometimes it wasn't!
Many times my wife travelled with me and was a party to both the good times and the bad.
It is truly sad to note that so many of the cast are no longer with us!
As an aside, much of the dubbed trumpet soloing was actually Australian jazz artist, Bob Barnard ... Read More

6.Pocket Money starring: Paul Newman, Lee Marvin, Strother Martin, Wayne Rogers, Hector Elizondo
directed by: Stuart Rosenberg

VHS : Pocket Money
Even diehard Paul Newman (or Lee Marvin) fans might have a hard time getting through this one. They play a couple of oafish cowboys trying to get a herd of horses from Mexico into Texas; neither has a clue what he's doing. A parody of the tough-guy western, Newman is the not-very-swift though good-hearted and determined schlemiel, while Marvin is the con-man who bungles everything. Newman is occasionally funny, but Marvin is merely surly. Stuart Rosenberg's direction is very loose, and often there seems to be no direction at all. Even at a relatively short 100 minutes the movie seems to go on forever. The best thing about the movie is the music by Alex North. Not a career enhancer for either principal actor.

VHS : M*A*S*H - TV Season Two - 3 Tape Boxed Set
Just like Season 1, I would have rated the entire series a 5 or a 6. M*A*S*H is one of my top 10 TV Series of all time; though I am not a big fan of seasons 1-3. However there is a lot to be desired in this set because of what the DVD does not have. While it has every episode in the season and the quality of the DVD is wonderful, there seems to be something lacking.

The DVD itself dose not have a lot of feature. You can not "play all", there are no filmographies, back stories or even a list of the extra and cameos that made M*A*S*H one of the best shows. It would have been more interesting to see where all those extras went off to do. For this I give the makers of the DVD a 1. So must unfortunately give them a average of the two ratings which is a 3. This is a disappointment for M*A*S*H fans everywhere.
