Wayne Morris, Ronald Reagan, and Eddie Albert star as three senior cadets in their final year at the Virginia Military Academy. The question that hangs over them is whether they will graduate, since they have a talent for getting themselves into trouble. Morris drags Reagan into many of his schemes, including chasing girls, while Albert has caught his girl, marrying her (which is against the rules). To top it off, she's also pregnant. The cast is up for the various shenanigans, playing their parts with a lot of energy. Albert is particularly memorable as the cadet trying to concentrate on graduating while his personal life is upside down. The girls are played by Priscilla Lane, Jane Bryan, and Jane Wyman. Only Wyman really makes an impression. It's fun to see life in the Academy and to ... Read More

VHS : Paths of Glory (B&W)
This is an oft-times overlooked film in the Kubrick canon, and that's something that is unfortunate. At the base, the story is a satire on injustice in the military / injustice in war. It takes on a number of themes all at once, and does so gracefully without ending up looking like a rudderless plot.

Kirk Douglas plays a French colonel (Dax) in World War I. He is one of the few officers in the film who has genuine integrity. As such, he finds himself in conflict with the nefarious actions of his superior officers nearly as much as he is fighting with the Germans. Douglas delivers a fabulous performance as an officer who is torn between duty and honor (always a dubious thing when these two traits clash).

Dax must cope with generals who who are perfectly content to ... Read More

This is one of the better historical films made about the war in the Pacific. and the 'thirties and 'forties aviation navy.

I was in naval aviation near the time this was written about, and know the aircraft depicted. The depictions are accurate; one of the rare movies not to throw in the wrong airplane in a battle scene. Like many other similar films about that period (Midway, Pearl Harbor, Tora, Tora, Tora, etc.) using U.S. Navy film footage from the color documentary, filmed aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise, The Fightin Lady, the footage shown was appropriate for the type of aircraft shown, including my favorite naval fighter of all time, the F6F "Hellcat" Grumman fighter which is credited with shooting down nearly eighty percent of all Japanese aircraft shot down in combat ... Great Movie Plenty of Great Characters.
We are "AVID" Movie collectors and have over 1200 titles and a few months ago had purchased "The time of Your Life" #865.
We finally tried to watch the DVD but found that three quarters of the way through the movie it lock up and will not play on any of the 5 DVD players we have, we put the disk in our computers and found that the video file is corrupted on your disk.
Needless to say we will not be buying any titles "VINA Distributor" has from this point on. Plus the resolution is bad less that 640X480 "You must be joking".

This is a film that really should suck royally. Think about it: Charlie Sheen, whose appearance has usually been a recipe for mediocrity; Kristy Swanson: anyone remember her for "acting" in anything else other than the Buffy movie? No, thought not.

But you know what, this film is wonderful. so good in fact that it is one of my favourites ever. Both Sheen and Swanson are really likeable in their roles. But what makes it even better is the wonderful support. Henry Rollins and Josh Mostel are simply wonderful as a pair of purusing cops roped into a reality cop show. Mostel's rather resigned, anxious pathos plays fantastically against Rollins' rapidly unravelling messianic monomania. Ray Wise as Swanson's multi-millionaire father is a treat, as are Anthony Keidis and Flea, playing a couple of glory-hunting stoners.
