VHS : The Miracle (1959)
It is truly a shame that this film is not available on DVD in this age of technology! Furthermore...[.....]..ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I already have a copy on VHS and I bought it brand new...and no...it did not cost anywhere near [.....]. That is a total rip off. The movie is entertaining, but it's not that good and most people have never heard of it. Why the scandalous greed when it comes to selling a copy of a VHS? I am just going to have my copy transferred to DVD and I will sell them for [.....] bucks a whop. I'm an incurable romantic and a Catholic and that is why this movie appealed to me. Believe me...it's no great drama, but if you are a romantic like myself, you will enjoy it very much.

VHS : Once Upon a Honeymoon
This movie is a romantic comedy about a radio reporter named Patrick O'Toole (Cary Grant), and a socialite named Katie O'Hara, aka Katherine Butt-Smith. The movie is set during the World War II amidst Nazi invasion of Europe, and concentration camps, which makes the theme of the movie a little insensitive and offensive. On the positive note, the movie has an excellent cast; Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers (in my judgment they make an excellent couple), and it is directed by Academy award winning director Leo McCarey, known for classics such as; An Affair to Remember; Love Affair; The Awful Truth; and Going My Way.

When gold-digger Katie travels from to Austria to marry Baron Von Luber (Walter Slezak), amidst Fuehrer's invasion; Pat O'Toole prepares to cover the big story of an American ... Read More

VHS : Sinbad the Sailor
Dear Amazon,
Recently I have purcahsed the video tape of Sibab The Sailor starring Douglas Fairbanks and Maureen O 'Hara. Iam very disappoimnted this time as the quality of this video tape is not good at all. I have purchased a ne w video tape but unfortunely the color of the film is no longer clear and almost has become black & white instead of a color film.I will not purchase any classic video tape any longer in the near future. I presume all quality of these classic film on VHS are too old to be purchased.

5.Fallen Sparrow starring: John Garfield, Maureen O'Hara, Walter Slezak, Patricia Morison, Martha O'Driscoll

VHS : Fallen Sparrow
Dorothy Hughes' best selling suspense novel translated into one of the best early film noir movies made. In a role originally offered to Jimmy Cagney, Garfield hit a magnificent major chord of acting. In an era before visual flashbacks of the mind, Garfield's voice-over and facial expressions nail a psychiatric basket-case destroyed by torture at the hands of the German secret police during the Spainsh Civil War. The plot is a little dated, but Maureen O'Hara gives one of her best performance and Walter Slezak is a great villian, oozing EVIL from every pore..

Sometimes greatness can be achieved in a singular way, even if the totality of a work of art is not great. This came to me upon watching one of my dad's all time favorite films, and one which I have watched several dozen times in my life- Alfred Hitchcock's 1944 black and white Lifeboat, which is also one of the three or four best films Hitchcock ever made, and did receive Academy Award nominations for Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Screenplay. While I am not a rabid devotee of Hitchcock, because most of his thrillers are filled with rather cardboard cutout characters, despite the films' technical excellence, this is still probably my favorite Hitchcock film; not only because of the memories of watching it with my dad, but because it is one of the least Hitchcockian films in his canon- in ... I watched this movie with my mother so very many times when I was a little girl.
When I watch it now I can almost still feel her sitting next to me laughing.

Though Gene Kelly is superb as the athletic strolling player Serafin, and is given some of the best dancing opportunities of his career, this is Miss Garland's film all the way. And what a film! How strange that it isn't better known.

In one of their rare moments of scenic largesse, Metro released Garland from the small town confinements of Hardy--ville, and/or the sweet girl who makes it to Broadway with the corn stalks still in her suitcase, and gave her something of genuine wit and sophistication.

For here, she is Manuela Alvarez, of the colonial Virgin Islands, a well born, cloistered 19th century maiden, (presumably convent educated, i.e., Gladys Cooper to Judy, "...we'll take refuge in the church!") whose only psychic escape from her self enclosure consists in fantasizing about the notorious ... Anyone who has read the book will look forward to a bright, inquisitive, chatty and charming little girl. I was very disappointed with this portrayal of that character. She didn't talk much, she didn't seem to have much personality at all. As far as following the story line, I understand they always have to make some adjustments for Hollywood, so I won't pass too harsh a judgement there. But when the main character of the story is bland, I just have to whine. Luckily there are other versions. I'll try another.
