VHS : The New Land
Karl Oskar leads his disgruntled wife to the spot he has chosen. Kristina is impressed. They go to work. Karl Oskar fishes and clears the land. Robert catches a rabbit. Kristina makes bread and cooks over an open fire. She gives food to Indian women. The men begin building cabins. Kristina is elated when they are given a cow. At the housewarming, we see in her face that she misses Sweden.

Kristina and Ulrika are now friends, and Ulrika plays midwife when Kristina's baby is born. They drink a toast.

Schizophrenic Robert imagines he shoots and kills an Indian. Karl Oskar has little respect for his brother. The snow scenes portray the Minnesota winter. In the spring, Robert and Arvid set off to dig for gold in California. Ullmann looks sexy at their parting, her long ... Read More

VHS : The African Queen
What a work of art! This is one of the best movies of all time. When the spinster missionary woman (Hepburn) must TOLERATE Mr. Arnaut (Bogart)
in their life-threatening trip down the river in a beat-up old boat, The African Queen, the fun begins. She can drum up no respect for this man--until she realizes that he is an intelligent person who may be able to save their lives by his cool wit. He good naturedly sloughs off her constant criticism, while she endures his slovenly ways and colorful language. At some point they start developing a strong like for each other. When Bogie finally shaves, well you know romantic sparks are about to fly. Movies or stories do not come any better than this.

I have loved this film since the first time I saw it on cable over 10 years ago. Not only did it remind me of my own first experiences with Alaska more than 20 years ago, but the classic "seat of your pants" approach to the journey (it's not where you're going, but how you get there that matters) is something everyone should experience in their lives.

I finally came across the VHS version in an Office Depot about 8 years ago and snatched it right up. I fail to understand why it has never been released on DVD. Even my favorite Indy films come out on DVD these days! What gives?

I don't like abridged novels and films that are chopped to pieces are in the same category. This shortened version lacks the depth of the original full version film. The full version film should be considered an all time classic.

VHS : Bond: Never Say Never Again
I wouldn't go out of my way for this if I wasn't a Bond completist, but NSNA seems to me to be a fair-to-middling Bond outing that compares favorably to its contemporary (1983) 'official' competition, OCTOPUSSY. Despite a low budget the film doesn't feel cheap, the recycled plot is one of the better ones, and Connery, although hamming it up a bit as a middle-aged superspy, is still everybody's favorite Bond.

If you're comparing this to the early Connery, or even the Pierce Brosnan period, forget it - done at the height (depth?) of the Roger Moore period, NSNA is full of tongue-in-cheek, but handled better, IMHO, than the corny Moore scripts. Q-Algy was less overdone than John Cleese, though James Fox's "M" dialogue was sometimes a bit too over-the-top, Barbara Carrera had to make ... Read More

I very highly recommend this Mario Lanza film. It is very enjoyable to watch and colorful. The clothes and scenery are great and also the song selection. It's little shown on television but a really good Mario Lanza film. Mr. Lanza can hit all notes so beautifully. He truly has a angelic voice.

This was NOT the "feel good movie of the summer" like the box advertised. Or maybe I was thinking of "The Mighty Ducks". Either way, I probably only laughed through about half of this.

I am writing to plead for someone who has purschased this item to please be specific about WHAT IS NEW ABOUT THIS EDITION. I gather it has been remastered--but the product info states that there are 2 discs, so are there any extras? Any commentary tracks? Those of us who love the film await word the way a reclusive film star awaits a simian undertaker!!
Many thanks for any descriptive info that can be provided.

VHS : Flash (1998)
This good old...original Disney movie is one of my favorite horse movies and now a favorite horse movie of our sons. (our son, Rowdy is 7)

This is a film that captures the heart, spirit and bravery of a young boy and his horse/friend..."FLASH".
Connor (the boy...played by: Lucas Black), is left at home with his grandma, who later passes away. Connor shows his bravery by selling his horse/best friend..."Flash", to the horse ranch of a wealthy/selfish man and father of a boy he rode horses with. He became their stable boy so that he could be around Flash and help take care of him.
After finding out that the man was going to sell or try and do something horrible to Flash, he steals him and takes him away...to free him.
He then travels on a long, amazing journey...on Flash...to New ... Read More
