I'm a boxing fan and train often but I have no idea why people like this movie. It's a story about a cocky, arrogant jerk who likes to abuse the people around him both mentally and physically. Most of the movie is of him degrading women, screaming profanities to them and hitting them. In one scene he beats his own brother badly in a jealous rage, stomping him and then slugs his own 20 year old wife. The only thing I learned from this movie is that Jake Lamotta was one horrible person. This movie does nothing for boxing. It basically just shows boxers as violent wife beaters who can take punches. Even the fight scenes do nothing to showcase the art of boxing.

i didn't think the acting was all that great. the barfing scenes get old (and real disgusting) real quick. i could say the same for the characters. all you can do is shake your head. what was the point of this movie? a disgusting spectacle? it succeeds there.

i'll give it this much: i kept watching, and actually started getting interested in the story a good hour into it. mildly interested, that is, when they reach tijuana and catch up with sister gomez (vincent de gallo). she takes them under her wing with the purpose of helping exercise them of their demons (for a fee). anyway, i won't give anything away. still, after finishing this movie i almost felt like barfing - but even that makes the whole thing sound more moving that it was. what a joke. the biggest joke though is that some people ... This film was excellent. The director allows the viewer to become comfortable with the characters, and then adds abstract information to complicate the plot. The viewer feels uncertain and confused at some points in the film, but that is the brilliance of this piece of work. This film keeps the viewer stimulated by using visual effects. Also there is a strong sense of motion. Sometimes it is difficult to understand what is suppose to be a dream, and what is actually reality. The film is basically centered around a brother and sister relationship with a few added complications. This relationship is very odd, but realistic and touching. The ending is very vague, but that is reality. The viewer is left with a deep feeling of some kind, it is very difficult to explain. This film is a pure representation of society, economy, ... VHS : Funeral
"The Funeral" is a mob movie. However, it's different from many other mob movies you'll see. It's got a different premise, different dialogue, same actors.
You won't find Marlon Brando or Robert DeNiro here, but I think Christopher Walken fills in nicely. The Funeral is kind of like The Godfather mixed with Eulogy. Both of those films are completely different movies (one's a Best Picture winner with Al Pacino, the other is a forgotten comedy with Ray Romano) but I like that analogy so I'll continue. The movie opens in a house where several obvious members of organized crime are gathering around a coffin that contains a guy named Johnny (Vincent Gallo, 'Buffalo 66' & 'The Brown Bunny'). Johnny has recently been killed and through flashbacks we see some events leading up to Johnny's death and his brothers
Ray (Walken) ... Read More

This movie, I think, is well done. If you like the artistic form of the young female body, you will love this movie. The scenes of the little girls were done very tastefully. I have always enjoyed viewing the female body in its purest form. It is a beautiful creation that many people, especially men, take for granted. There is nothing sexual or arousing about any of the scenes and they are done in the most prestigious of settings. Very well constructed.

The plot is a great one. The only problem I had with this movie is when the girls were in "the big nothing," the story started to bcome like choppy sentences. The scenes changed to quickly and Angela was getting too many signs. I think that this part was a little overdone. The ending, although very dramatic and appropriate for the movie, could have been laid out better. ... Read More

if your one of those people who expects whats happening in a movie to be somewhat possible and/or realistic, and for characters in the movie to have at least a shred of common sense as to what to do in the situations at hand, than i would not recommend seeing this movie. it will simply frustrate you to watch the victim continually ruin each chance she has to escape, such as calling her husband rather than the police when she finally gets to a payphone, which apparently took her six hours to get to yet later is revealed to be 100 yards or so from the house, usually i wouldn't include facts like this that give away certain parts, but in this case im just doing you a favor by lowering your expectations, although i do think jennifer tilly plays the psycho role rather well

The acting and props are sooooooo bad, that you could swear you were watching a junior high drama project. At one of many points of absurdity, one of the Astronauts rushes in from a walk on Mars excitedly holding a piece of ice that he found !!! Well, the piece of "ice" is a clear plastic box. Completely laughable. The "ship" is just a small room with some completelty fake looking plastic buttons that Gallo repeatedly presses. The space suits had a regular zipper in the back - to make sure the vacuum and poison gases don't get them !! The helmets that they used for their Mars space walks simply plopped down on the suit with no seal of any kind.

At one point Gallo suddenly proclaims that they only have 12 hours of air left, and asks one of the women for sex so that they can enjoy their waning hours.

I can't believe this movie is actually ... Read More
