This is one of the best mini-series ever made, fantastic actors. Beautiful cinematography.
WHY NO DVD YET?????? What is the problem. My VHS was "borrowed" by a "friend" and I never got it back.
So now I have to buy another, but I would really like to get it on DVD. I don't even care it is pirated at this point. all movies should be offered in DVD.
Besides all VHS tapes get moldy after a while.
Is there anyone out there that will listen to our pleas?

I believe that a narrator can really make an audio book and Flo Gibson does such a fabulous job of the voices of the characters in "The Wind in the Willows". This is one of my son's all time favorite books and audio books. I highly recommend it.

before I saw this movie. And talk about type casting, Vanessa Redgrave is perfect as Izzy. She's just as dizzy. Izzy and her family were quite the bull chip artists. And these free spirit moms that don't think its necessary to marry the father of their offspring are the most selfish cows on the face of this miserable planet. Oh well at least she got preggy by wealthy men. But, it's the children who suffer. The movie was entertaining and Vanessa did a good job capturing the era. enjoy!

As I am currently changing all my VHS tapes over to DVD's I am struggling with some really good "old" mostly historical tapes that I don't think will ever be transferred over to DVD, and this is one of them.....the only copy I had, prior to acquiring this one is an old tape from the actual TV drama itself which has been played so often that it is skipping and missing words. I believe that some individual was selling a DVD that they had made but the review was that the picture quality was lousy, so I won't go there. My personally opinion on this movie is that IT IS THE VERY BEST PORTRAYAL of Catherine the Great of Russia. Unfortunately there was a much more recent remake with Catherine Zeta Jones in the starring role....forget that! Julia Ormond leaves Zeta Jones in the dust when it comes to playing ... Read More

ROFL, yeah I'm going to pay that in your dreams. It is a good thing I don't base my review on the ridiculous prices of these outrageous sellers. If I based it on them I would give it no stars. Great movie with good story and cast, I will be glad when it is finally back in print. I would be very surprised if it isn't re-released on DVD. Just be patient.

VHS : Three Sovereigns for Sarah - A True Story Of The Salem Witch Trials
"Three Sovereigns for Sarah" [1985] was part of the American Playhouse series, an anthology television series periodically broadcast by PBS. I have watched most dramatizations of the Salem Witch Trials, be it the History channel's docudrama about the Salem Witch Trials, The Crucible [based on Arthur Miller's work], and more recently Salem Witch Trials [2003 CBS mini-series]. Three Sovereigns for Sarah stands as a gripping reenactment of the tragic events that unfolded in Salem village in 1692 and tells the compelling story of the victims, focusing on three sisters accused of witchcraft.

The main star of this production is Vanessa Redgrave who plays Sarah Cloyce, one of the three accused sisters during the Salem Witch Trials. It's been 10 years since the tragic events of 1692 in which 20 innocent people were put ... Read More

VHS : Girl, Interrupted
While the fantastic performance of Ms. Jolie won an Oscar, deservedly, and jumpstarted her sensational career, the performance of Winona Ryder has somehow, and unjustly, been neglected- She is astonishingly good, sensitive, nuanced, and very brilliant in the lead role. The irony that amongst her words spoken in the film: ("Have you ever stolen something that you could completely afford to pay for?) appear, in real life, to have slowed down her career, seems unreasonably unfair. She is a great artist and one day hopefully will have an Oscar of her own. I feel she should have been nominated for this film, as should have Whoopi Goldberg, in quite a small but emotionally rich role. In addition, Vanessa Redgrave, though seen on film here for what has to be not quite 5 minutes, leaves an incredible impact, that, too could have been Oscar ... Read More

VHS : Bear Island
Bear Island is one of those movies I want to like more for all its cheesiness. Barely released theatrically, cut heavily for home video and rarely shown on TV, it marked the end of the big screen Alistair MacLean goldmine (subsequent adaptations would be straight to cable) and, pretty much, the viability of most of the cast as leading players - Donald Sutherland, Vanessa Redgrave and Richard Widmark in particular would soon be relegated to the little leagues or supporting roles. At times it's like a bad accent competition, with Richard Widmark's German and Christopher Lee's Polish faring better than Vanessa Redgrave's Norwegian ("Yuust becorzz somwun haas givan anne ohrdoor?") which at least adds a little variety to her usual flat delivery of dialog. Maybe Donald Sutherland should have tried one too because he spends huge chunks of the movie ... Read More

VHS : Howard's End
A magnificently told tale of sin, forgiveness, redemption, and the settling of accounts

Though slow-moving throughout (my only complaint against this film, and a minor one at that), HOWARD'S END is many things: a costume drama, a period piece, a film with some of the best acting you could ever hope to find, and at times, a comedy of errors with some very unique and unpredictable plot twists. The story revolves around two families -- the Schlegels and the Wilcoxes -- and a marriage which almost connects them, a close friendship that does, a failed bequest, a sin which comes back to haunt, another marriage, and a murder.

I must confess I have not read the book, though I now want to. Many years ago, I watched THE REMAINS OF THE DAY, another popular Merchant-Ivory film (also starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson) released ... Read More
