VHS : Parrish
This movie is 60's classic. I notice the last post on this forum was in 2000! Here it is 2008 and still no DVD! I agree with the majority of reviewers that the junk that is out on DVD is just that...junk. We don't want these classics to be forgotten. Copy it to DVD before the next iteration of technology emerges.

VHS : Rome Adventure

I saw this film in 1962 just days after returning from a tour of Italy. While not a classic film by any means, I was totally won over and was back in Italy again. Whenever I watch it and listen to Max Steiner's wonderful score I can practically smell Rome. It was titled 'Lovers Must Learn' here in the UK, and was never released on VHS here. I had to get a copy from the USA. I would like to add a plea to Warner Bros to release this film on DVD. It has a real nostalgia quotient attached to it, even more so due to the recent sad demise of Suzanne Pleshette.

This movie is entertaining from the aspect that there are soo many big named actors in the movie showcased early in their careers. The plot line is thin at best and the acting in parts are just as good. The only reason I rated this movie soo high, is I lived where it was filmed and was able to see all the actors shooting scenes throughout town. For me and my town it is a cult classic as we recognize each location and scene they are at. Overall, the movie is interesting to see once for the actors strictly.

VHS : Monolith Monsters
Most people who like old Sci-Fi and Horror films have seen 'The Incredible Shrinking Man', but not as many know about another really smart and interesting film called 'The Monolith Monsters'. I do not like giving plot details in my reviews but, this one does have an intriguing premise that is well executed. Good special effect and I'm sure that is an unbilled Paul Peterson from 'The Donna Reed Show' as the boy with the bike. The transfer is excellent on the ultimate sci-fi classic collection volume one. This is another top notch film from a time when most of these flicks were for making out at the Drive- in.

VHS sucks, but this is one of the better sci fi/horror entries from the 1950's. Let's get this and a few others on DVD already.

VHS : Palm Springs Weekend
This was the first movie I saw when I was a kid. I was almost seven at
the time and it was on a double bill with "The Sword and The Stone." My
mum dropped my two sisters and myself off at the Altantic Theater in
Long Beach, California and this movie played first. I can't tell you a
thing about the Disney movie, but I remember just about every scene
from Palm Springs Weekend. The '63 Thunderbird, Bugs Bunny, Stephanie
Powers, Connie Stevens, the pool with the bubbles and the car chase at
the end. Hard to believe, but this film made me want to work in the
movies.

And so I did. I have worked in film and video most of my career and I
always tell people this was the film that first gave me the notion.

During my career I have been fortunate ... Read More

VHS : Blast Off (1967, aka Rocket to the Moon, aka Those Fantastic Flying Fools)
Also sold under the title "Rocket to the Moon", but there is more than 1 film by that name, so make sure it is the same cast. This is a 1967 inspired by the story of Jules Verne's classic tale, `From the Earth to the Moon". This was fun adventure movie set in the Edwardian age, with plenty of comedy thrown in. In the beginning the British government is in an uproar due to the big failures of some new inventions and they are worried they are falling behind in world stature. They turn to a team of inventors and investors formed by P.T. Barnum of all people. Barnum is in England hiding out from creditors after his show burned down. The mission has to fight incomepentence and sabotage along the way. Directed by Don Sharp with very good period costumes, believable sets, fun special effects.
Burl Ives plays the part of ... Read More

VHS : Dr. Alien
This is easily one of the silliest coming of age sagas ever made. Made in Canada and starring Judy Landers as "Miss Xenobia", an alien disguised (with excessive makeup and gigantic hair) as a college biology teacher. "Dr. Alien" is somewhat like "Weird Science" combined with "Hobgoblins" in overall texture and concept. The plot revolves around the transformation of Billy Jacoby from nerd to extremely cool (for mid 1980's Canada) studmuffin. Along the way many silly situations typical of the genre happen, and poor Billy Jacoby gets a comical looking, yet disturbing additional appendage (which talks, but it's not what you think) that helps him out with the ladies.

I am particularly fond of the scenes in the bar, both for the rankness of the music and later the Hobgoblins-esque (though with better special effects) ... Read More
