VHS : The Patriot
Among the steady stream of disgusting, vulgar, and /or western civilization-bashing crap that flows like a sewer from our Left Coast, we get a little reminder every once in awhile that the United States is not completely the Great Satan. We do have a redeeming quality or two. Thank God for a generation that didn't bow the knee to British oppression and tyranny. (Anyone who thinks the British were righteous during that period probably also thinks that Islam is a religion of peace.) Today we are the world's oldest democracy because that generation "stayed the course" (oh, the mindless clichés!), fought barefoot in the snow, and defeated the most powerful empire in the world (strangely reminiscent of the Vietcong).

When I'm feeling low about the porn-saturated, Bush-decimated, corporate ... Read More

VHS : Honky Tonk
Honky Tonk is the story of Candy Johnson (Clark Gable), a swindler with plenty of charm. It is this quality that makes him so much money, but his line of work has him constantly moving from town to town. He vows to stop this by setting up stakes in a new town which he plans to take by storm. His intentions seem good when he starts his own saloon to get away from the corruption of the sherriff. He takes the town drunk, also the judge (Frank Morgan), under his wing and makes eyes at the judge's daughter (Lana Turner). His plot is completely successful, but at the expense of the people around him.

Turner and Gable work well together, but this is Gable's film all the way. He uses his trademark personality masterfully in this role. All of his charm is believable and it is no wonder people do ... Read More

This movie is a real movie. Not at all like the Barney on TV. It cannot hold my twins attention like the show. They are only 10 months old so they may like it when they are older, but it is not at all like I expected.

4.The Sixth Sense starring: Firdous Bamji, Mischa Barton, Toni Collette, Janis Dardaris, Glenn Fitzgerald

VHS : The Sixth Sense
There is not a lot of negative that can be said about this movie. I saw it in the dollar theatre in early 2000 and was totally taken away by it. The tone, score, screen play, and acting are all supurb.

The only bad thing is that M. Night Shyamalan set the bar so high with his first major film, that every movie he has made since has suffered by comparison.

The DVD has some really great special features, the best of which are the deleted scenes, where Night explains his reasoning behind each cut that he made during editing.

Over all, an outstanding movie and a great DVD.

5.Jurassic Park III starring: Sam Neill, William H. Macy, Téa Leoni, Alessandro Nivola, Trevor Morgan
directed by: Joe Johnston

VHS : Jurassic Park III
Unlike the first sequel, which I prefer to call 'Jurassic Farce', the third installment in the Dino-Thriller Series actually earns the right to call itself 'Jurassic Park'.

Tight pacing and a few new dino's keep this film exciting even if some of the story is tad preposterous. The T-Rex and the Raptors return to menace Grant and his new friends but the real star of the show is an even bigger badder 'meat-a-saurus' with a name I can't pronounce.

Fans of the books will recognize some elements drawn from the novels but left out of the two previous films. The Aviary finally makes an appearance and the island where the film takes place seems to be modeled after 'Site B'. However ,the majority of the plot and all of the characters (with the exception of Grant) are new entries into the Jurassic ... Read More

VHS : I'll Remember April
It had to happen. Someone in the well-meaning, simple-minded Hollywood Liberal community heard about the reparations paid to Japanese Americans whose property was stolen before being shipped into camps that were less nightmarish than the camps of Europe but not exactly fun either. These reparations happened not long ago, too late to help most of the poor, innocent souls whose lives were destroyed by this crackpot bit of social engineering. So, in that dreamy way of theirs, they looked out at the underpaid Japanese gardeners trimming their trees and watering their lawns and thought, "What a perfect opportunity for some mawkish, emotionally manipulative revisionist history." The result is this goopy, ponderous greeting card of a film in which America's war years are indistinguishable from lazy family picnics in summertime. ... Read More
