VHS : Christmas Eve
I first saw this movie while stationed with the military in Belgium when my sister-in-law made a copy and sent it too us. When it came out on video I bought a copy. This has become a Christmas tradition in our family to watch this movie as faithfully as "White Christmas", "It's A Wonderful Life" and other classics. This should be distributed in DVD. This is a wholesome and moving story of a how the Christmas Spirit can renew a family torn apart by past bitterness and bring the love and warmth that only this movie was able to portray. Bring it back in DVD is my plea -- have a very Merry Christmas America and remember our troops.

Interesting and easy read - Fox has done his research well. My late husband's parents were Kenya settlers and his father had NO respect for the Happy Valley crowd AT ALL. Fox has certainly filled in many of the gaps left in the story my husband, Len Gill told me and has introduced me to a new side of some of the characters Len knew. I only wish I had read this book before my husband died of cancer. So many questions - so little time for answers.

I saw this when it was first shown on US television in about 1975 and was amazed by the storyline and the acting. I had seen Chamberlain in his TV series, but this film allowed him a vast range of emotions and exercises which the Tv show did not. I had not read the novel then, of course.

Relatively, this is the video version people should watch. I videotaped it a couple of times (once the result was not so great) and watch it sporadically since. The book I read in 1989 on a commuter train between Sunnyvale and San Carlos - commuter trains are great for reading! The many opinions about the relative merits of the book vis a vis this excellent film are true, BUT, given the time limitations of the film format, details have to be dropped. Oh, yeah, one of the days when I was reading the book three ... Read More

I wish they'd do this one on DVD, because MArty takes the classic Legion Etrangre film (Gary Cooper 1939) and trashes it the way Mel Brooks did "Blazing Saddles" on the Western Genre..... Marty Feldman is a fogotten comic in the vein of Laurel and Hardy or Buster Keaton... When he plays second fiddle.... you laugh a lot!!!!!! DO IT IN DVD......PLEASE!!!

The TV picture was awesome. Lots of action with great action. What also really impressed me was the sound, If you are a World War II movie fan, then this is a must addition to your library.
I purchased this picture as a gift for my son who lives and works in Thailand. I was concerned that it wouldn't play on his Play Station 3 Japanese unit. FYI it worked just fine.

This movie was one of my formative movies.

It NEEDS to be available to the current crop of humans. They need to have alternate images of a 'hero' in order to get a well-distributed variety of individuals.

I agree, it needs to be released on a disc format.

Please, put it out on a High-Def format. It was a beautiful movie as well as a poignant one.

Might as well do it right if you're going to bother at this point, eh?

And you could put nice links to her poems and such, given the new formats for the HD discs.

I'd prefer Blu-Ray, if given the option.

VHS : A Doll's House
Filmed in 1973, this Joseph Losey-directed adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's play feels fragmented, its message sacrified to the lovely cinematography, stunning costumes, and then-controversial star. In Ibsen's play, Nora gradually changes from being a brainless doll to a woman who realizes that she must leave her repressive husband and her children if she is ever to exist as a real person. Jane Fonda, in this screen version, is manic and silly almost to the very end, her lack of gravitas making the conclusion more absurd than enlightening.

In both the play and this screen version, Nora is shallow and flirty at the outset, a woman who has married a wealthy man so that she can live a comfortable life. Early in her marriage, she secretly borrows a large sum of money by forging her father's signature (so that she ... Read More

great, enjoyable movie. beautiful soundtrack. just wish r. donner had done more with the man of steel just like g. reeves. foiling a bank robbery, bending steel bars, jumping out of a window, fight scenes with the bad guys. the scene when the bullets bounced off superman in the tunnel should have been left in the theatrical version. it's the 30th anniversary of the 1978 movie. i'm sure WB will re-release an expanded edition with all the deleted scenes that were never shown. i have VHS copies of the TV version off from ABC TV from 1980. lots of nice scenes to see. enjoy.****

Light-hearted, yet philosophical and with a spark of "danger"
thrown in at just the right times.
Brilliant role by Cary Grant, with his classic expressions, and
subtle moves. Just a great sit-back-and-enjoy movie.
