VHS : 12 Angry Men
'57 is a classic par excellence, but '97 does offer some interesting new features. I use both of the films as a means of processing a vast array of psychological concepts while working with first and second year college students. When I first stop the '97 version, I ask students if they heard anything at the onset of the film. There is a clever insertion of the line, "I'm gonna' kill you," as the sound track presents us with noise of a passing El train. Many of my students can't identify what the voice said, and some don't even remember hearing it.

The '97 cameras pan the room differently during the preliminary vote and do not allow us to see the effect of group conformity to the norm as it is registered in '57 version. The guilty vote is not as polarized as it may superficially ... Read More

VHS : She's Out of Control
I love this movie. It's funny and makes me nostalgic because I was just a kid when it came to theaters. The acting is great and the situations are funny. I just wish some studio would re-release the movie! Look at the other '80s teen movies on this site: $6.99-$12.99. This one: starting at $54!!! No way! Hopefully, in time, they will release it in an anniversary edition or something. Then I'll definitely buy it.

VHS : Garbage Picking Field Goal Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon
We enjoy movies about underdogs, and this movie with its overly long title is no exception. Tony Danza is Philadelphia garbage man Barney Gorman, who has developed incredible leg strength by kicking a hydraulic control handle on his garbage truck, named Ethel. When Philadelphia Eagles' recruiter Wendy Fox (Julie Stewart) spots Barney kicking water bottles incredible distances, she gets the idea to add Barney to the team. At the time the Eagles were doing poorly and their kicker was missing easy field goals and extra points (according to this movie - I have no clue as to how the real Eagles were doing at that point).

Barney becomes an instant celebrity as he embodies the spirit of every person who has ever dreamed of playing for a professional football team. However, Barney encounters significant resistance ... Read More

VHS : Angels in the Outfield
In an attempt to repeat the magic and financial success they had with `The Mighty Ducks' (92) two years previously, Disney turned their attention to major league baseball and the hometown Angels. Deciding to do a remake of the '51 film `Angels in the Outfield' which starred Paul Douglas they had all they needed available right from the beginning; a tried and true storyline to work from and access to a local, professional baseball team. What could make things more perfect? Well how about the fact that the team in question just happened to be named the Angels fitting perfectly into the title and theme of the proposed film! Ahh..., the genius of the Disney machine is a beautiful thing to observe isn't it?

The end result of their endeavors, `Angels in the Outfield' is definitely a kid friendly film that the whole ... Read More

VHS : Noah (1998)
I bought it because of Disney, Tony Danza, and Noah. I keep it, and wish I could find a DVD version, because, the entire family (grandparents through grandchildren) enjoys it over and over again.
Through a fun story line, it teaches enduring principles of faith, family dynamics, loss, processing grief, ethics in the work place, personal responsibility and growth, social dynamics, love, and forgiveness.

VHS : Glam
I saw this movie a few days ago and i must say was caught off guard. I normally do not enjoy movies involving drugs and sex but this movie shows a different angle to that kind of life style. It makes us see it for what it is. Now i remember Frank Whaley back when he did that movie which put Target on the map by acting like a dork. Well he becomes a serious actor and plays his part with conviction in this movie. The lovely Natasha is very hot and if Frank was was to choose between the two to spend the night locked in a department store, sorry but Jennifer would lose out. It's a common story line but this movie takes it one step further by making it for what it is.

I picked up this VHS tape from a yard sale for 25 cent thinking it would make a good blank tape for recording at the very least. Now it is going into my collection ... Read More
