VHS : The Horsemasters
This movie shaped the lives of many girls of my generation (way old). As Ofoeti mentions in the review below, we ate and drank this movie. However, we had to keep reading the little paperback book, as there were no VHS machines yet. The little book came from a kids newspaper we used to get in school, I almost remember the name of that newspaper (Weekly Reader?). I was sorry to read in Mike's review that Annette did not enjoy the making of this movie, but I do know that she loves horses. Wasn't her husband first her horse wrangler? It is time to rerelease this on DVD. I wonder if it is Annette or Disney who is holding up the release of this movie, but if they don't release it soon, those of us who love it will be dead.
I was lucky enough to find a camp much like the movie in CA. I went ... Read More

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I have been checking periodically with amazon.com for the past four years on the off chance this movie might one day show up - AND SO IT FINALLY HAS!!!! Saw this once as a young child on Disney's weekly hour long show, back when they made and aired decent family shows on television every week, and I have never forgotten it. I've watched amazon.com come out with Three Lives Of Thomasina, Jungle Book, Toby Tyler, and Hans Brinker! Now if they will just go after "Almost Angels", "Big Red". and "Uncle Remos' Song of the South", I can die happy!!!!

I have loved this film since it was first released in Canada. I saw it at a theatre on Yonge Street in Toronto at a Saturday matinee where the kiss between the two men started a mini-riot sparked by some teen-aged boys in the audience. They were probably expecting a gangster movie !
I have over the years recommended the film, and loaned my VHS and DVD copies to people younger than myself who universally seem to have the same reaction, "It is so Seventies !" Never mind that it is one of the best acted films of its decade, and that it unflinchingly examines complex relationships with an honesty and integrity that would not be equaled for many years. (Possibly until BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN.)
Essentially it is the tale of a complex triangle, one part straight, one part gay, where both relationships ... Read More

People are all over the place in rating this film (for a myriad of reasons) so I'll try to pin that down first. While the film was beautifully produced, bulging with a fine cast, it did not do all that well when it was released. Someone mentioned this reality already and they are correct in their facts on that point. I first saw "Agatha" either on HBO or Cinemax in the early days of those cable premium channels. In the end, it IS a really good film with an interesting story to relate.

In 1926, famed mystery writer Agatha Christie really DID disappear for better than a week. In real life, (and in the movie), she was experiencing major domestic problems, prior to her divorce from Colonel Christie, and it's my belief that this is the simple basis for her disappearance; however, numerous conspiracy theories ... Edward Fox: the Original Terminator...

It's an old adage in fiction: there are no new stories, only well re-told ones. One can see this in 1973's The Day of the Jackal wherein the suave Edward Fox is the original Terminator rising from each setback to ruthlessly continue his terminator mission.

I don't usually review films because so many other people do and there may or may not be little left to say. However, sometimes a truly quality work of cinematographic art moves me to emphatically share with others its excellence: this is the case with The Day of the Jackal.

Now, probably most viewers will have seen this old chestnut on commercial TV interspersed with infinite advertisements, sliced and diced to atomic particles. That is NOT the way to see this film, for this is an extremely ... Read More

VHS : People That Time Forgot
"The People That Time Forgot" (1977) is the sequel to "The Land That Time Forgot (1975). Both titles were borrowed from Edgar Rice Burroughs along with the basic premise, a prehistoric tropical paradise in the heart of Antarctica; inhabited by dinosaurs and cavemen. Burroughs detailed how volcanic activity kept the region warm and how a rim of mountains protected the land from the frozen temperatures that surrounded it. The film does not bother to include these scientific details nor much else from the original Burrough's stories so don't think less of him just because some hacks borrowed his idea and make this movie.

The movie features an expedition to find Bowen Tyler (Doug McClure) the main character in the 1975 film. The rescue effort is not exactly massive, it is a tiny four person expedition led by Tyler's childhood friend ... Read More

VHS : There's a Girl in My Soup
Good acting but uninteresting story. Not much happens and its very talky. Judging from the cover and the casting I expected a fun comedy but "There's a Girl in My Soup" feels more of an uninspired drama-comedy, with very few funny moments (I can only think of one, and I just finished watching it). The acting is good, as expected from Hawn and Sellers, but their talents are wasted. Not recommended.
