Quite simply, Lonesome Dove (1989) is one of the best westerns of all time. Even the minor characters are multi-dimensional and fully developed. All of the acting is top notch. The direction is superb.

But, this story is really about the relationship of two men: Captain Woodward Call (Tommy Lee Jones) and Captain Augustus McRae (Robert Duvall), retired Texas Rangers. Call, the stoic, is the polar opposite of McRae, a fun-loving "philosopher." Their poignant farewell is one of the most touching you will ever see on film. (Duvall said this was his favorite role.)

I rank this film right up there with The Searchers (1956) starring John Wayne.

VHS : JFK - The Director's Cut
This film is one that requires the watcher to immerse oneself in another world. A world of cold war tensions, clandestine operations, high level plants and communist witch hunts. Historical facts not with standing, it is a very enjoyable film and is very well done. The pacing and character development is second to none. The movie is star studded and the talent of those present is easily recognizable.
It does not have 21 cars exploding, bullet time kung fu or little kids out smarting adults, so I suspect the general public of subhuman idiots that is today's movie watcher may complain that it's boring.
I highly recommend it

OK, release this on widescreen dvd NOW, PLEASE. I thought it would be so nice to see this little Tommy Lee Jones flick I so loved as a kid, let's go rent the dvd...No DVD. What a shame. For this is a well-made, quiet little father-daughter movie set on the Mississipp. Tommy Lee is fresh out of jail for a crime he may or may not have committed as a kid. He's quiet, he's depressed, he's withdrawn. He's beaten down. Martha Plimpton is his spunky little girl he never knew. She is being raised by her good-as-gold grandma because her trashy mom is a no good deadbeat living in Memphis. Martha is so in love with Tommy Lee. What little girl wouldn't be! Slowly but surely she brings him out of his shell and makes him want to live again. Wonderful scenes between Tommy Lee and Martha (who should have been as big ... Read More

Campy Batman can work with a good cast and right atmosphere, but here it mixes with dark Batsy and has a bad cast. (Except Jim Carrery.)

Great movie for family night. Cissy Spacek did a great job portraying Loretta Lynn and kept me entertained the whole time.
Anyone who loves music should see this movie and would know how truly tough it is to break into the music business; this movie definately shows what it takes to make it famous.
Anyone who was or is poor can associate with the story this movie tells.
This is not a documentary but it does show a lot of history on Loretta Lynn and is enjoyable to watch...definately not boring!
