I really wish this wonderful film would get a DVD release. The story maybe as old as time, but it is well told in this movie and I would love the ability to share it with my kids.

VHS : Man Upstairs
This little gem is one of the best Christimas movies ever. Ryan O'Neal is perfect as the jewel thief with a heart, who breaks out of jail. Katherine Hepburn is the sassy octogenarian who befriends him. Along the way, there is Champange, A Christmas tree, Carolers, snow and 'the right message'.

Here are two of our best liked actors in a sweet, small movie, very different from what they did in their heyday. This is a charmer. I suspect this film will not be issued again. So, get it while you can.

VHS : Prospero's Books
Prospero's Books is nothing less than an almost overwhelming feast of images, stuffed with charms, magic and metaphors. It is Peter Greenaway's vision of what The Tempest might have been had Prospero used those 24 books of great knowledge and magic he took with him when he was sent into exile by his brother. Prospero had been the Duke of Milan when he was overthrown. Twelve years later he inhabits an island with his daughter, Miranda, who was three when they were sent away. There is Caliban, of course, a "freckled whelp, hag-born," but all the other inhabitants are sprites and spirits. And now Prospero, delving into his books and writing his story, imagines his revenge. The first of his books is The Book of Water, a tome of parchment pages that bring rain and mist and dripping tears. As Prospero lies in a pool ... Read More

VHS : The Krays - Bonded by Blood
The real crime is that this film is not available on DVD in the US. Peter Medak's brutally violent gangster film based on the lives of Ronald and Reggie Kray who were played brilliantly by the Kemp brothers who fronted the 80s pop band, Spandau Ballet. Guy Ritchie's films don't cut it when it comes to British gangster films trust me. This is the real deal.

This is an intelligent biopic of Britain's most infamous gangsters, the twins who made life safe for East Enders when they weren't running protection rackets or inflicting gangland punishments on rival mobsters. To be fair, writer Philip Ridley and director Peter Medak largely avoid glamorizing the violent world of Reggie and Ronnie, and are more interested in unraveling the complex personalities of the two brothers. They are helped by surprisingly convincing ... Read More

VHS : A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
Well, Nightmare 2 gets a bad rap from a lot of Nightmare fans. A lot of it having to do with the gay undertones (Coach Schneider...well you know what he was planning on doing when he took Jesse to the school). But besides that, I give this movie props because it is definetly the last time we see Freddy being dark and scary. I started out not liking this movie. Then I started watching it more and more and realized that they did a really good job with it.

Another problem some fans have is the pool scene. And in all honesty, I'm not thrilled about it either. They should have established Freddy as being a killer in dreams more before taking him out into the real world. In my opinion, they rushed that idea a little too quickly.
