VHS : Made in Heaven
Saw this when I was very young, maybe 9 or 10, and it somehow moved me in a visceral way that I simply cannot convey in words. But I never found out what it was called. With the memory of the powerful ending vaguely imprinted on my mind I vowed that I would one day find out the name of this movie. I have been clutching at straws for years trying to figure it out. Only recently did I find out, I'm now 25!

I have used the the Warner Brothers comment system on their website to try push for a DVD release. It MUST happen. AMAZON, if you can hear me, please do ALL you can.

VHS : Beautiful Girls
Beautiful Girls is an ensemble comedy, with star power to burn. Hutton and Sorvino are both Oscar winners, while Dillon Thurman, and Portman have Oscar nominations. The title of this movie, Beautiful Girls, should clue you in to what it's about. It is a celebration of the beauty of women, but at the same time, it is also a cautionary tale about how men put Beauty on a pedestal that sometimes interferes with them making a commitment to a mature adult relationship with a real woman. In spite of the stellar cast and lofty premise, it probably went straight to DVD. I have no recollection of this movie being released theatrically. I thought that because of this it would be a big stinker, but it was actually quite good. I have a few theories about why it performed so poorly at the box office:

Nothing earthshattering here, but a fun romantic comedy with Meg Ryan to lighten up your day. Kevin Kline gives, as always, a brilliant performance.

I don't usually buy movies but this one I bought.

I've seen this movie several times over the years and never got tired of it. The story is heartbreaking, and the acting is among the best ever. As another reviewer wrote, this movie deserved all the Oscars it received.

I believe this movie will always hold up through time because when tragedy strikes in families, oftentimes the true character, whether good or bad, of some people who are going through such grief comes out, as this movie shows.

Saw this movie when it was in the theatres and bought it on video. It is the type of movie you will watch on a rainy day, or a quiet night with someone. If you believe that someday you will meet that one person, then watch this movie. It is a tear jerker, without all the pretense; however you might make it to heaven before it makes it on dvd but lets hope not.

VHS : A Long Way Home
This is a really good movie, a mixture of compassion and of hope for the children in the story. It stars Timothy Hutton as Donald, who is around 10 years old,and his sister and brother who he looks after when their self-absorbed mother abandons them. Donald has to steal milk and food for his siblings but eventually draws attention to himself and the children eventually end up at Childrens Aid Services. The children are eventually separated and put in separate foster homes. This is the story of Donald's search for his brother and sister and how he never gives up trying to find them and while looking years later, connects with a sympathetic Social Case Worker(Brenda Vaccaro)who he tries to get to help him. I saw this movie on TV years ago, and it has been on VHS a long time ago, but its never been on DVD. I can ... Read More

9.The Doorbell Rang: A Nero Wolfe Mystery starring: Timothy Hutton, Maury Chaykin

VHS : The Doorbell Rang: A Nero Wolfe Mystery
The Doorbell Rang, starring Timothy Hutton as Archie Goodwin, and Maury Chaykin as Nero Wolfe, is a suberb adaptation of Rex Stout's 1965 novel. Nero Wolfe takes on "the big fish" J. Edgar Hoover to earn the biggest fee of his career. With the able assistance of Archie Goodwin, his intrepid legman, Wolfe triumphs over the F.B.I., earns his client's admiration (Mrs. Bruner: "Is there anything you can't do?"), and solves a murder for the cops along the way.

This 2001 TV movie is brilliant. Producers Michael Jaffe, Timothy Hutton, and Howard Braunstein did everything right - the cast, the dialogue, the sets, the wardrobe, and the music. Everything that Rex Stout put into the story can be seen in this video. You will feel as if J. Edgar Hoover's minions are watching you, and you'll want to call Archie ... Read More

10.City of Industry starring: Harvey Keitel, Stephen Dorff, Timothy Hutton, Famke Janssen, Wade Dominguez

VHS : City of Industry

Harvey Keitel (Roy) plays his usual self-assured character leading a group in a jewelry heist, and then goes up against a myriad of contract killers.

Famke Janssen is very convincing as a mother of two and wife of one the jewelry heist gangmembers who gets caught up in the mess. Famke is very attractive with or without makeup, (and very tall-with those long legs). Timothy Hutton, Roy's brother (killed off early by Dorff) and Lucy Liu have minor parts.

All I can say is you'll be so very happy when Harvey Keitel smears Stephen Dorff's brains all over the pavement, towards the end of the movie. Stephen Dorff gives and absolutely first-class perfomance of a double-crossing, short-tempered, quick-drawing psychopath, who won't be double-crossed (as he has double-crossed) by anyone. Why does ... Read More
