This is the same edition that came out in 2004; it does not contain any new features. I looked on Criterion's website, and apparently the only thing "new" about this edition is the lower retail price. Still a great movie, so if you don't own it yet, now you can get it for less money. Very cool feature-length making-of documentary included.

"With fellow critics, I got involved in a conversation about the underlying reality of the film. Was it all a flashback - or a flash forward? What was real, and what was only in the hero's mind? Are even the apparently "real" sequences the product of his imagination?" Roger Ebert

My best friend urged me to view 'Jacob's Ladder' after we had discussed philosophies of life and death. I remembered reading about Jacob's Ladder from the Bible 'Jacob's vision in which he saw a stairway from earth to Heaven with angels descending and ascending.' Little did I realize that this film was the reality.

This film is not like anything I have ever seen. It is a viscerally frightening film that kept me on the edge of my seat. It opens with a scene in the Mekong Delta. Jacob Singer, as played by Tim ... Read More

I remember when this movie was first released. It looked interesting and exciting to me and so I saw it in the theater, and I enjoyed it. It's not a great movie; the plot is farfetched and one dimensional and the acting is flawed, but the film is entertaining none-the-less. This is the definition of popcorn fluff; simple yet exciting and serviceable.

`Antitrust' tells the story of computer genius Milo Hoffman who plans to open an open-source site for the public with his friends, especially fellow genius Teddy Chin. His plans are turned upside down when Gary Winston, president of NURV, offers him a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; to single-handedly help him launch his open-source program. Milo takes Gary up on his offer and soon has joined the NURV team and is working hard for the `enemy'. Soon, obviously, Milo ... Read More

War of the Worlds is a visually stunning and ultimately terrifying film about encounters with ruthless invaders. While I praise this film for the alien scenes and plot, the rest is so mundane and negative that it almost ruins the movie.

The movie introduces is to Ray (Tom Cruise) and his ex-wife and kids. He is to watch the kids while his ex-wife is away for the weekend. During this time, Ray encounters a massive and strange electric storm and later on discovers it triggered massive machines buried underground that start destroying or harvesting man.

I have to say that the first encounter with the tripod is an amazing scene. When it finally stands erect and emits it's terrifying sound before battle, I couldn't help but feel an immense dread at the events that were to lie ahead. This is very effective movie making ... Read More
