I have waited years to see this movie again. Of course, it's not as creepy as I remembered it but I still enjoyed it. A must addition to my sci fi collection.

VHS : Conspirator (1949)
This movie is set in post-World War II London, and is about a young woman who marries an older man who works as a Soviet spy. She discovers his secret, and tries to make him quit. He continues his secret life, and she threatens to expose him to the authorities. He must kill her, but things don't go quite as planned. There are some surprise plot twists not expected, especially at the end. Elizabeth Taylor was only around 17 when this movie came out, and she's stunningly gorgeous here. Robert Taylor plays her husband, and he does a great job as the sinister husband with a double life. I liked this movie well enough that I would watch it again.

It seems this movie has gotten a lot of negative reviews by the critics, and it has passed into Forgotten-Movie-Oblivion as far as rentals go, or even as far as people's memories have gone.

I saw this movie about 15 years ago, and thought it was pretty darn funny. Not hilarious, but funny. It was bizarre in that brilliant Python-esqe way. It is loaded with British humor the way they do it best. Throw a polite, sensible, English chap into an extremely horrible and embarassing situation, and then watch as he uncomfortably deals with it. Keeping his gentlemanly politeness at all times, of course. "Shall I kill myself sir? Would that help?"

I liked the humor, liked the fairly gross story, and I especially liked the women in this movie. They really carried the story quite a bit. ... Read More

VHS : Personal Affair
This is one of Gene Tierney's most overlooked films. Being a fan of Gene's I love almost anything she is in, and this film is no exception. A very interesting story about the obsession of a young girl for her teacher. Gene plays the wife of the teacher and Leo Genn is the man being sought after by Glynis Johns (who was actually 30 years old but played a much younger person.)
The action in the film takes a surprising turn when the girl vanishes and the teacher is now the #1 suspect-
Great movie for a rainy afternoon!

5.Lost for Words starring: Thora Hird, Pete Postlethwaite, Penny Downie, Jennifer Luckraft, David Shimwell

VHS : Lost for Words
Lost for Words is a poignant example of a son's loyalty to a somewhat demented mother , she is funny, clever (in a very illogical manner) and reaches into your heart and stays there! A tender film that will help you understand ties that make love and understanding plausible.

6.A Kind of Loving starring: Alan Bates, June Ritchie, Thora Hird, Bert Palmer, Malcolm Patton
directed by: John Schlesinger

According Nietzsche: "The time for marriage comes before the time of loving each one another". And this is precisely the moral lesson of this simple but penetrating portrait around two young lovers who decide to marry after she is pregnant. He will be convince by himself he is not yet prepared to assume all the responsibility for this role. The fine direction of John Schlesinger deserved for this film the coveted and for many people unexpected Prize of The Silver Bear in 1962.

VHS : The Tailor of Gloucester
What a pity this version of "The Tailor of Gloucester" is not currently available. Narrated by Lynn Redgrave with much English Christmas and Beatrix Potter lore included, this musical staging starring Ian Holm as the tailor is utterly enchanting. Dance, caroling, nursery rhymes, exquisite cat and mouse costumes, snow falling gently over a fairytale English town, charming actors -- it has it all. Please talk to someone about reissuing it! My old VHS tape, copied off public television years ago, won't last forever ...
