I really didn't think this was a nice adaption from the book. It was too short. But as far as the casting of the characters was concerned, that was very nice. I remember saying to myself while watching, "That is exactly what I thought Lucy should look like."

But then again, Saint Maybe is one of my very most favorite books, so of course I'm critical. It didn't really live up to my expectations

VHS : Addams Family Reunion (Clam)
I admit that I was slightly dissapointed when I watched this movie. The fact that there were different actors and actresses took awhile to get used to, but they were better than I expected. Tim Curry was actually a very good Gomez, apart from his attempt to sound Spanish. Daryl Hannah was a wonderful Morticia, accept for the fact that the person who tweezed her eyebrows did a very bad job. Wednesday was not the same, Christina Ricci portrayed her part alot better, but she was an okay Wednesday. As for Pugsley, they over-exaggerated his weight too much. Fester was more like the original from the TV series, having a high-pitched voice, unlike the Fester in the past two movies. Lurch was the same as always, and Mama was pretty good too. Thing was still terrific.

The special effects weren't ... Read More

VHS : You Can't Cheat an Honest Man (1939)
"You Can't Cheat an Honest Man" was a disappointing effort due to the fact that rather than featuring W.C. Fields director George Marshall chose to allow Edgar Bergen and protege Charlie McCarthy to hog the screen. I was under the impression that ventriloquists were not supposed to move their lips. This was a condition that was lost on Bergen. I'm at a loss as to understand what the captivation was with his tired act.

Fields playing perpetually indebted traveling circus owner Larson E. Whipsnade was given too few opportunities to perform his particular style of hijinks. One notable exception was the scene in the ticket booth where he used his excellent comedic tools.

The widowed Fields' kids Victoria and Phineas played by Constance Moore and John Arledge are being supported ... Read More

I read all the current reviews after I saw the mini-series, because I was searching for one that might explain the ending. I have a 2 disc set (marketed may I say in the most difficult packaging I have ever encountered for a DVD. My nails broke and fingers ached after struggling with the release buttons to free the discs, but I digress). I was talking about the series' ending. And that is the point, what is the ending? It leaves us unfulfilled and wondering: and then? What happens next? Clearly, she chooses the world she wants, but what happens to the two men who are so involved in her life? What about her sister-in-law's life? What about the other characters who are integrated into the plot? Not one has a finality except for the character who is the cause of all problems, and a dead nun. (Trying here ... Read More

VHS : Crossing the Bridge
A great coming of age movie set in 1975 detroit. 3 high school friends are now graduated with uncertain futures. None went to college and none have decent jobs so they are emotionally caught between adulthood and the high school mentality of living at home. Symbolic of this are the high school letter jackets that two of the friends still wear. Stephen baldwin plays a guy who is losing his identity. He was cool in high school but now as an adult he is just another guy. Mort is the most intellectual and introspective of the three but he knows that he needs to go to college to realize his dream of being a writer. A dream that doesn't recieve much support from his friends. In fact he never shares a scholarship notice from central michigan university with them.

Early in the movie they encounter a drug dealer ... Read More

I purchased this dog on the basis of a positive review in Leonard Maltin's movie book. It was supposed to be a comedy, a rip-off of Jaws, and filled with sly shots at 1950s scare films. In fact, there is no comedy or satire at all; it's a horror flick for drive-in theaters. A topless woman in the first scene gets the "R" rating--before she's devoured by hungry fish. Lots of blood everywhere. Lots of screaming. It's almost enough to make a couple in a drive-in look up at the screen.

10.Faces of Death Box Set starring: Michael Carr, Samuel Berkowitz, Mary Ellen Brighton, Thomas Noguchi, Adolf Hitler

VHS : Faces of Death Box Set
I saw the faces of death several years ago and the images left in my mind still haunt me. I often wondered why anyone would make such a film and why anyone would want to see such horror. Then I realized it's because all of us have that thing called morbid curiosity. Like when there's a wreck on the highway and everyone stops to see what's happening when what they really want to see is if anyone's dead. The scene in these movies that I can't get out of my head is when the guy is skydiving and lands in a crocodile pit and all of his insides are floating on top of the water-- anyway, it looked pretty real to me so if real blood and guts is your thing......
