VHS : Shirley Temple Gift Set (Heidi, Curly Top, Baby Take a Bow)
I ordered this supposedly rare color set thinking 23 dollars was a good price for fond memories....what I got was a 1960s-70 VHS quality colorized copies...yes the tapes are still faded and the color unnatural in spots...Hollywood can do anything digially these days but whomever is distributing and making money on this evidently does not care. Amazon please include a note specifing what one is getting on your site ..a disclaimer at least..you are too good a company for this kind of business selling tapes one can record over the airwaves!!!!Also they are coming out with DVDS in May I hope they are better...

VHS : Charlie Chan: At the Opera
1937's "Charlie Chan at the Opera" is a better than average episode in the long running Charlie Chan series. Warner Oland stars as the titular Honolulu Police Detective, with Keye Luke as Number One Son, while Boris Karloff has an outstanding guest role as an escaped mental patient now haunting an opera house in the manner of "The Phantom of the Opera."

The story opens with Karloff's escape from a mental institution, then presents a murder at an Opera House to draw in Charlie Chan. Chan is his usual inscrutable self in his police work, with veteran character actor William Demarest (Uncle Charlie of "My Three Sons") as his none-too-bright foil on the local police force. The plot itself is filled with the usual collection of suspects and more than the usual number of red herrings; only ... Read More

VHS : Heidi (1937)
I purchased this video for my mother who will be giving it as a Christmas gift. We were blessed with getting to know a young lady from Germany who spent the year with my brother as a foreign exchange student. While here, she and another student from Austria watched our video of Heidi so they could compare it to their version. They enjoyed it so much that my mother decided to get her a copy. We are very happy with our purchase - the quick shipment and great packaging got it to us in A-1 condition. Thank you.

If you are one like me that collects good Christmas movies for the family, this is one for you. It is a good story. Reba does a great job in this movie. The only downside to this movie so far is that it has not been offered on DVD yet.

VHS : Charlie Chan in Paris
1935's "Charlie Chan in Paris" is a suspenseful entry in the long running movie series featuring the famous Honolulu Police Detective, here played by Warner Oland and ably assisted by Key Luke as Number One Son.

Charlie Chan, nominally in Paris on vacation, is actually tracking a bank fraud involving forged bonds. Charlie's undercover assistant, a nightclub singer, is murdered the night he arrives. The pool of suspects for the crimes includes a drunken artist, a number of employees at the bank, and a mysterious crippled soldier who seems to show up everywhere. Charlie must find the forgers and the killer, and do so before an innocent woman goes to jail for murder. The trail winds through private homes, a bank, a nightclub, and the sewers of Paris, leading to a final confrontation in an ... Read More

VHS : Black Day Blue Night
I really enjoyed this movie. It's not a great action or suspense film, but not a bad little movie to watch on a Friday or Saturday night if you are looking to just kick back and enjoy a flick. I only wish it was available on DVD. I will plan on purchasing it if it's released, for now I bought the VHS version, which was failry decent quality, but on an HDTV greater than 32 inches all VHS' have a hard time keeping up with today's video quality. The movie starts out with Mia Sara catching her husband cheating on her and eventaully hitches a ride with the other woman. Along the way they pick up a hitch hiker who they later believe to have robbed an armored truck. The law is looking for him and eventually catches up with them all, but there are some unexpected twists. Pretty decent acting and Mia Sara's ... Read More

If you want to checkout a good Jason Scott Lee film, I recommend the following:

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story

Rapa Nui

"Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision" is an awful film. Awful production values. Awful acting. Awful script. I would not recommend this film to be watched by anyone who seriously believes that tripe like this is quality entertainment or advances Asian American awareness in Hollywood (This film does neither.).

I would at the very least say that this film is passable entertainment on a rainy day if you ever come across it while channel surfing. If you are curious, perhaps a rental from Netflix, but this film is definitely not for keeps.

If you are one of the few people who watched this film as a means to raise your Asian American film ... Read More

VHS : Cold River
I have my students read the book Cold River in school. I was excited to see a video of this story as it is a favorite. But, this video is terrible. They have changed so much from the book. My advice--read the book and forget the video. Holes is the best movie I have seen that came from a kid's book.
