VHS : The Fast and the Furious
This movie is sweet. Do not expect this movie to be a cinematic classic, it is fun, just because that is what it was made for. Entertaining and the extra features on the HD disc are cool too. It has nice rides and excellent racing scenes. Aside from most movie crticism, it is fun to watch with friends.

VHS : Ellen Foster
The Movie "Ellen Foster" followed the journey that a young abused girl takes to find a place to call home. Based on the book written by Kaye Gibbons, this horrifying but yet modern story makes the common day person thankful for their wonderful but not perfect life. With both famous screen stars such as Jena Malone and Amanda Peet and debuting cast such as Allison Jones, this movie is definetly one to put in a time capsul. Honorable mentions also include Kate Burton, Ted Levine, Julie Harris, Debra Monk, Glynnis O'Connor and director John Erman. With a star studded cast list and amazing author of the movie's base, this movie is set for life.

Ellen Hammond (Malone) was a young girl with adult-like maturity. Many children her age had never seen or felt what she had. When the movie ... Read More

Great acting from Liam Neeson and Patrick Swayze. Wish some who reviewed the movie had watched it more carefully. Gerald (Truman's brother) wasn't doing anything illegal, he worked for a company with vending machines who were targeted by the Chicago mob for takeover--he got caught in a takeover mob killing. And Truman's (Swayze) brother's name was Briar (so typically mountain)--not Blair. And a reviewer wondered how Briar (Neeson) knew Chicago so well since he had never been there--Briar clearly states at Gerald's funeral he HAS been to Chicago and didn't like it, he returned home to Ky.--so that's why he knew his way around town. Both Neeson and Swayze do a great job in expressing the culture of the "hills" versus the Chicago life. Helen Hunt is good as Truman's (Swayze) wife. The scenes of the ... Read More

This review will discuss the merits of the now rare and out of print Criterion Collection version of the film. One of the questions a viewer needs to ask him or herself is whether or not the added expense of a rare edition can be justified.

The Criterion dics presents the film in a letter boxed widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 which appears to be the correct shooting format used by cinematographer Tak Fujimoto. The sound is standard 2.0 Dolby Surround. This is a fairly new film and the Criterion transfer appears to be reference quality. I have heard that there is an inexpensive collector's edition by MGM that presents the transfer as a widescreen anamorphic with a 5.1 surround mix. For pure picture quality either way you go is probably fine.

There is really no reason to discuss the ... Read More

VHS : Georgia (1995)
I have been a great fan of this movie for many years and just recently had the opportunity to purchase it and now I can watch it whenever I want. Both actresses, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Mare Winningham, capture the roles of Sadie and Georgia Flood beautifully. I was especially surprised and happy to find out that Mare Winningham is such a wonderful singer/songwriter and musician. The film, about 2 sisters; one who became a successful singer and who did not really care about it and the other sister, who had no talent but who would not give up her dream of becoming a star, was beautifully done and a delight to watch. Mare Winningham was nominated for best supporting actress for this film and should have won and Jennifer Jason Leigh should have been nominated for capturing the role of Sadie so well. I highly recommend ... Read More

VHS : Mangler (Unrated)
The headline on the case looks like a sure fire winner: Tobe Hooper directing! Englund staring! Based on a Stephen King book! Well this movie just plain sucked. I remember reading the short story of the Mangler and thinking it was some of King's worst writing. Then I remember I have a weakness for really bad horror movies, so I picked this baby up. Aside from a few cool scenes of gore, this movie just drags on and on. Englund's acting is really not up to par on film; He seems wooden and not into the role. Also, films based on King novels are never that good, ive recently discovered. Read a book instead of watching this movie.

VHS : Nowhere to Run
This is a typical Jean Claude van Damme movie but it is really good. There is a plot, action, comedy and drama which actually blend together quite nicely. It's a good no-brainer, almost feel good at the end kind of movie. I don't particularly care for Rosanna Arquette but she did ok. Ted Levine (the Capt. from the USA show Monk) is really great as a bad guy. He doesn't have his mustache in this movie but his voice is very distint. Anyway, if you like Jean Claude, I think that you will like this movie. It is one of his better movies during the peak of his popularity.
