VHS : Hercules (A Walt Disney Masterpiece)
Disney released its 35th full-length film in early 1997 and much like all Disney films be prepared for musical numbers to tell the story.....but they are done by Alan Menken....so it isn't all that bad. The plot is set early in the film: Hades wishes to over-throw Mt. Olympus and imprison the legendary gods that live atop the mystical mountain. So Hades summons the sisters of fate to predict the outcome - their forecast is anything but reassuring. A child will be born on Olympus that will defeat Hades' plot - if Hercules fights Hades will lose. So Hades sends his to loyal henchmen, Pain and Panic, to steal the baby from Zeus and feed him an elixir that will remove the young Hercules' godhood and allow Hades to kill the newborn. Well, in typical style, Pain and Panic, botch the assignment and ... Read More

4.Clean & Sober starring: Michael Keaton, Kathy Baker, Morgan Freeman, Tate Donovan, Henry Judd Baker
directed by: Glenn Gordon Caron

VHS : Clean & Sober
CLEAN AND SOBER, starring MICHAEL KEATON (MK), MORGAN FREEMAN, KATHY BAKER, is a movie that will potentially raise as many questions as the answers that is gives out, considering that it touches upon the subjects of narcotics addiction, alcoholism, and the disorder and chaos that is felt in many people's personal lives.

Not knowing MK personally, the work suggests an almost invisible line between the character that is played by MK in the film, and MK himself, as an actor, such is the realistic feel of the flow of events.

The story starts out with MK snorting cocaine with the daughter of a client, from whom he
embezzles $92,000 to speculate on the stock market with high risk derivatives and options, albeit only being a realtor or real estate agent. This puts his ... Read More

This movie is a classic. The details are solid, right down to the hack watch the co-pilot's wearing. Someone did their research, and that's a lot to ask for from Hollywood.

You will love the crew - all played by not well-known actors (save Matthew Modine and Eric Stoltz), but strong actors all the same. Funny moments, tragic moments, and suspenseful moments. While this may not be an accurate depiction of the Belle's 25th mission, it seems to be an accurate summation of all the missions that preceded it. You're essentially a part of the crew in that B-17.

Not much more to add to what other 5-star raters have said, but this is a movie I pull out and watch at least a couple of times of year because it's that good.

6.Only Thrill starring: Diane Keaton, Sam Shepard, Diane Lane, Robert Patrick, Tate Donovan
directed by: Peter Masterson
January 19, 1999
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Only Thrill
Peter Masterson directs another tender film in the manner of his 'The Trip To Bountiful'. Based on the play by Larry Ketron (who also wrote the screenplay) THE ONLY THRILL follows the lives of four people over a period of 30 years, a time frame that wisely incorporates all the changes that happened between the 1960s and into 1996. Not only is this a strong story about relationship possibilities, it is a chronicle of the changing mores from the decade of 'Love' to the decade of dissolution: social changes here documented make a lasting impression on those of us who have lived that time frame.

Reece McHenry (Sam Shepard) owns a Used Clothing store in Austin, Texas and employs Carol Fitzsimmons (Diane Keaton) as his seamstress. Reece's wife has been in a vegetative state for years and ... Read More

VHS : Hercules: Zero to Hero
If you are expecting this to be a sequal to Disney's Hercules...you will be let down tremendously, not because it's bad...but because it's not a sequal. It is not a "Full Length Movie" either. What it is is a few episodes of Disney's Hercules TV Series put onto tape. And I may say...it is FANTASTIC for what it is.
All of the episodes on this tape (The First Day of School, The YearBook, The Grim Avenger, and and the Visit from Zeus) are truly some of the best in the series. If you are a fan of the movie, or the series...this is definatley worth watching. All of the Herc-Humor is their. Plus...all of the voice actors, with the exception of Danny Davito, have all returned to voice their characters, which makes the experiance more enjoyable. This tape will satify all the Die-hard Herc fans over until ... Read More

Excellant depiction triology. My hat is off to all the people involved in bringing these stories to life.

9.Ethan Frome starring: Liam Neeson, Patricia Arquette, Gil Rood, Tate Donovan, Stephen Mendillo

VHS : Ethan Frome
Ethan Frome is the most poignant, beautiful, tragic story I've ever read, and is by far Edith Wharton's best work. Yet somehow, despite the fact that Liam Neeson plays the title role and does very well, the filmmakers managed to do a poor job conveying this story.

The decision to replace the book's level-headed, sympathetic introducer of the story with a whiny-voiced, invasive preacher was ridiculous. Patricia Arquette's rendition of Mattie Silver(my favorite female character of all time!!) was completely wrong, although she did have a few good moments. Arquette didn't have the dark hair or the luminous beauty of Mattie, and her acting did almost no justice whatsoever to Mattie's simple but profound character. The nervous laughing in particular drove me crazy. Mattie needs to be portrayed ... Read More
