VHS : The Godfather, Part II
The Godfather part 2 is HIGHLY recomended by me. It is not as good as the first, but it's still great! The only part i don't approve of is Michael ordering Al Neri to kill Fredo(HIS BROTHER!!!) Although he took sides against the family, you should always love your brother. Anyway, great highly recomended 5 star sequel!

I can understand why someone named "Ramrod" wouldn't like this film. It could be seen as indulging the worst of the late 20th century therapeutic movement. Very woman-centered, very emotional. Yet that's what's great about it.

It captures a time beautifully, a time when the blush of second wave feminism had worn off and it was a given that women were out there, having careers, showing their competence in the wider world. Yet we still had emotional lives to tend to, we still had to negotiate relationships with men in a world that had changed, we still needed to come to terms with the parts of ourselves that didn't fit the template our culture had set out for us.

This film was lovely in its evocation of a quiet retreat from all that to a space in which these women could ... Read More

VHS : The Godfather, Part III (Final Director's Cut)
THIS MOVIE IS TERRIBLE. The first 2 were excellent. If it's not bad enough waiting 16 years for a 3rd movie, then the movie itself is just horid. I mean like Michael is like in his 50s and Kay, Al Neri and all the others look they were about to croak any second. There are a few cameos from the first and second movies, like Michael's daughter looking through a scrapbook with pics of Appelonia(Michael's first wife who died in a car explosion in part 1), and a picture hanging on a wall showing Michael and Kay in a scene from part 2, and even a reference to Santino when Michael's daughter ask's a friend of Michael's 'What Was Sonny(Santino's nickname) Like?' Other than that THIS IS A DISGRACE TO ALL GODFATER FANS. AVOID.

VHS : Rocky 5
Rocky's returned from Russia (Rocky IV), with permanent brain damage curtailing his boxing career. But his comfortable retirement is likewise cut short when the accountant Paulie hired absconds with all their money, and they have to move back to the old neighborhood. A slick fight promoter nags him to return to the ring, and he resists, but sees a way to recover some of his glory when a young boxer asks Rocky to train him.

Rocky gets so caught up in the training that he neglects his family, and his son gets in trouble, and then everything is solved by a quick father/son chat and a fistfight outside a bar.

Mostly, it was boring. The beginning of the movie was just flashback after flashback of the previous movies, interspersed with repeated nagging from the promoter and incessant reminders ... Read More

VHS : The Godfather Part II
Troy Donahue played a brief but pivital role in THE GODFATHER PART II as Merle Johnson. Near the beginning of the film Johnson intends to marry Connie (Talia Shire) as he is seen in an audience with Michael Corleone (Al Pacino). The importance of this scene is to point out the moral principles of the two men each from dissimilar backgrounds. One, Merle Johnson is a man with an obscure and dubious background. The other, Michael Corleone is an affluent underworld entrepreneur. Is either man better than the other is? It depends on your point of view. That is the point that director Coppola wants to point out. The more I think about it this film is not just about the power of the underworld but about the power of cinema itself. In the first film Coppola won over many members of the audience and welcomed them into the family. ... Read More

Very entertaining movie, but the DVD fails to include the subtitles for the Russian dialogue between Drago and his trainer during the fight. This sucks, because it really added to the movie in its original form.
