VHS : Raid on Entebbe
It's a good movie and definitely a great story. Anytime folks stand up to evil and prevail, it deserves an applaud. This is a true story of terrorist kidnapping of a passenger airliner and holding them hostage trying to get them exchanged for release of imprisoned terrorists. The Israeli special forces go to work and pull off a stunning rescue with minimal casualties on their side. It only briefly mentions the aftermath in closing credits, but I think it deserves greater attention. Specifically the killing of the innocent hostage who was transported into a Ugandan hospital prior to the rescue as well as firing of the Air France pilot/captain who stayed behind with his passengers. In today's world, these are issue that need more attention.

There are some great actors in this ... Read More

This was a gift for someone who never asks for anything. I knew just where to find it. This movie has been watched over and over since it has been received. It was an old favorite long ago and loved once again.

As the next reviewer states, these are recorded in EP mode and the quality suffers, BUT WHAT A COLLECTION! I was especially pleased to see that the 10th tape was Sean O'Casey's Juno and the Paycock. Hitchcock's early films are such a joy: German Expressionism, slapstick comedy, long, long takes that show off the stage sense of the actors and Hitchcock himself, the beginnings of his particular film style, and his deep sense of social justice. If you can afford The Early Years DVD Collection you will get most of the same films, with the exception of The 39 Steps and Juno and the Paycock, but for the price this beats anything.

VHS : Finnegan Begin Again
I bought this a couple of years ago but never had the chance to watch it. I am glad I did.

I believe the characters, I believe the story. Then again, when it is two superb craftsmen as Mary Tyler Moore and Robert Preston, it is quite easy. Incredible nuance in both of their performances, never a false note.

And Sam Waterston is a hoot!!! My wife and I are Law & Order addicts and to see him in this role was hysterical.

I taped this movie from the Disney Channel a long time ago, it's about a father and his son at first the father was too busy for his son, then he learns to spend more time with him. It's also about this old lady and her granddaughter, the boy and the girl became friends but the boy's father wants to destroy the lady and her granddaughter's house and where they live. It's a great movie! You should see it; it's really a neat movie to watch. It's about friendship and love. I really enjoy this movie and you will too.

The reviewer below claims there is a region Free (o) dvd available on Amazonuk. Don't be fooled. It is still in the PAL format and will not play on American/Canadian DVD players. The VHS is the only way you'll see this film until someone releases it in this country. Region O in the Pal format still means it's a PAL dvd. Don't waste your money like I did. It must say Region FREE all regions!!! Don't believe everything you read here!!!!

VHS : Wagons Roll at Night
"The Wagons Roll at Night", would never be included in any retrospectives of the classic body of work by Hollywood legend Humphrey Bogart and indeed it couldn't help but pale into insignificance compared to the two classics Bogie made both before and after this effort, namely "High Sierra", and the unforgettable "The Maltese Falcon". Viewed on its own merits however minor they might be, it makes for pleasing entertainment that really is a good illustration of the studio product that made up the major part of a output each year of the major movie studios such as Warner Brothers. An almost complete remake of Warner's 1937 effort "Kid Galahad", which also featured Bogart, this time around the locale has been changed from a boxing ring to a circus. "The Wagons Roll at Night",referring to the constant moving of the circus ... Read More

VHS : You & Me
This time it's rehabilitating ex-cons, in the almost forgotten, You & Me, from 1938. No reviews for three years. George Morris (Harry Carey) is the altruistic owner of a department store & he hires ex-cons. George Raft is an employee, a former tough guy but apparently rehabilitated.
He has just gone off of parole & is really free. Free to travel, go where he wants, see who he wants & fall in love. Everyone knows he's an ex-con & his old gang members are trying unsucessfully to suck him back into a life of crime. Helen (Sylvia Sidney) has no such luck. She is also an employee still on parole, but no one knows except Mr. Morris & her P.O. She's young, attractive & vulnurable. She's not allowed to hang around with low-lifes like Joe or fall in love, with anybody. But she does of course, ... Read More

VHS : Fury (1936)
I agree with the many reviewers who focus on the lynching aspect of the morality tale spun so expertly by Fritz Lang. But having watched this recently, I also found much that was directly relevant to our modern times. In particular, the film really exposes how the heartland, the community, can be exclusionary and vicious to those it perceives as "the Other," whether that person is a suspected kidnapper, a gay person, or some other person selected by the town elders to be the subject of ridicule, disdain, and marginalization.

Consider those who raised objections to the war in Iraq, and how they were treated by the media and the "town elders" in Washington. They were reviled, shunned, marginalized, and forgotten, victims of a mob mentality that drove us to war and to celebrate on the nightly news our conquests and destruction. ... Read More
