VHS : Hannie Caulder
The brothers (played by Strother Martin, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Elam)as mentioned in other reviews, are "slap stick" at times. Welch's make-up was too heavy for the time period, and her dress un-buttoned down her navel while she is cooking, was a bit much. With all that it is still a very good movie and Robert Culp's best acting. He could teach me to shoot a gun anytime!

One of the better Welch movies, I have this on VHS and have watched it over and over!

3.The Villain starring: Kirk Douglas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ann-Margret, Paul Lynde, Foster Brooks

This is a western/comedy as good as Blazing Saddles or Maverick. And oddly enough, it has Arnold in it?! But don't expect his favorite catch phrase "I'll be back". This is much older than Terminator.

4.Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid starring: Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Katharine Ross, Strother Martin, Henry Jones

The transfer of this film appears to be the same MPEG transfer as the one used for the DVD version. It DOES NOT appear to be a new 1080p 4k re-mastering of the film. This is not to say that it doesn't look much better in Blu-Ray than it does on DVD. But it is not, evidently, a brand new 1080p 4k transfer made expressly for Blu-Ray release. This can cause some problems, depending on your display system and settings. You may have to select a different input palette or profile on your display, or adjust your settings.

If your system is setup to show Blu-Ray films using the "Cinema" and "Movie" profile of your display, which assumes a low contrast, subdued display of a wide range source that takes full advantage of the display's capabilities, then this film may look washed out, have milky blacks and ... True Grit (Special Collector's Edition)This is the movie John Wayne won an Oscar for his performance and well deserved it truely is! Excellent script, excellent directing and most of all, excellent acting. The movie was perfectly cast and all the actors delivered their best. The most beautiful locations added to the movie presentation. They have a featurette on this dvd about the location of the movie---and it is a real town. All I can say is the entire movie is so impressive and I would recommend this dvd as a must have for any film library.

It had been a long time since I had seen it, but the interest in Paul Newman has risen since he passed away. Glad I saw it again and for making the purchase.

VHS : The End (1978)
I remember my parent's taking my brother, sister, and I as kids to see this movie. (A LONG time ago)
I found it hilarious as a child, and watched it several times as an adolescent on cable. I ordered it because I remember Dom DeLuise being SO GREAT as Sonny's best INSANE friend trying to help him kill himself. Throughout the years my family has kept phrases from this movie alive. Such as "Your right Sonny, it's not high enough!" Or we mimic Burt at the end of the movie bargaining with God. The closer he gets to shore the more he rescinds or minimizes his promises to Him.
Without Dom, this movie would have been mediocre to BAD. But with him in it, I would still give it 5 stars. When he is introducing himself to Sonny (who thinks he's a doctor) and stands up propping his leg in the chair and while flashing Sonny ... Read More

9.Pocket Money starring: Paul Newman, Lee Marvin, Strother Martin, Wayne Rogers, Hector Elizondo

VHS : Pocket Money
Even diehard Paul Newman (or Lee Marvin) fans might have a hard time getting through this one. They play a couple of oafish cowboys trying to get a herd of horses from Mexico into Texas; neither has a clue what he's doing. A parody of the tough-guy western, Newman is the not-very-swift though good-hearted and determined schlemiel, while Marvin is the con-man who bungles everything. Newman is occasionally funny, but Marvin is merely surly. Stuart Rosenberg's direction is very loose, and often there seems to be no direction at all. Even at a relatively short 100 minutes the movie seems to go on forever. The best thing about the movie is the music by Alex North. Not a career enhancer for either principal actor.

10.Slap Shot (25th Anniversary Special Edition) starring: Paul Newman, Michael Ontkean, Strother Martin, Jennifer Warren, Lindsay Crouse

VHS : Slap Shot (25th Anniversary Special Edition)
Slap Shot is bottom-of-the-barrel minor league hockey. It's blue collar, living on the edge of desperation, rust belt culture. It's about a marginal business run for purposes irrelevant to sport. It's people miscast in life from hacks who see themselves as pros, to elitists who deign to play with the low-lifes. It's about people screwing up their relationships, about mis-communication and non-communication. It's about how people hurt each other in order to connect with one another. It's crude and irreverent. It's about the really screwy things people finally rally around. It combines more comedy genres than I can count.

Slap Shot is not a typical heartwarming sports flick. It concludes nothing about good and evil. Or overcoming long odds. It's not about a noble coach or noble players. Or illuminating all ... Read More
