VHS : Rags to Riches
For the 25 yrs I've been alive no movie has ever touched my heart like Rags to Riches. When I was a little girl, I would go to my grandmother's house and I would try to remember to bring the movie from home so my cousin and I could watch it. At the time, Ash and I were the only girls of our generation and having no other siblings of my own (brothers/sisters) it was like watching the show with the sister I never had. We loved the movie so much we memorized all the songs and would always sing them together. Now at age 25 and it being near Christmas I wanted to do something special for both Ash and I, I was planning to buy the movie on DVD and surprise her, plus buy one for my mother and I as well, but I was painfully hurt when I found out amazon did not have the movie in stock. We are in ... Read More

I wasn't sure how to review this one, so let's just say it was a bit of a chore. I have seen the gags and this film many times and yet it retains the charm i've always loved about it. Much cleaner than today's "toilet humor" films (which gross me no end, by the way but I digress), at the very least the former Saturday Night Live guys let us sneak a peak in the life of Steve's character, a introverted businessman who only has one passion: his wife and kids. His frustration with the airport, with the taxi (surprise appearance by Kevin (the goblin) Bacon) and one thing after another that we travellers can relate to, at first he resents, hates, and then comes to admire (and somewhat smarmy sympathize) with Candy's character, a curtain ring salesman who, despite major losses in his life latches onto ... One of my favorite's movies I remember will always be a favorite to me and now to my son as well. The service this person has is truly TOP notch. Speedy all the away to my door, not a problem with tape, it plays perfectly, but DVD would still be a nice touch.
Thank You mam for an excellent movie at a great price.

VHS : Alice to Nowhere
Alice to Nowhere was a 'ripping yarn' novel from Evan Green. Sold to Crawfords, who produced it as a two part miniseries, so most of the detail of the book has been kept in the movie. This is not a sparse production. The movie is true to the book, except the main character has had a name change from Fred Crawford to Dave Mitchell - Hmmm. Strong performances, particularly by John Waters as Johnny.

The Birdsville track today is a track in name only, but should you plan to visit the 'Never Never' country, this movie would be a good introduction to the landscapes out there.

The original Birdsville mailmen picture, "Back of Beyond", was most likely the inspiration for Evan's story. This is available again on DVD and well worth a look.

I first saw this movie in the theaters as a teenager, I took my little brothers and sister to see it and it was so good we stayed in the theater for a second showing. My friends and I that watched it when it arrived were all laughing and enjoyed the movie immensly. Something this good never goes out of style.

Although over the top re what is normal, enough of the movie is close enough to what happens to a father of a bride that the movie is a must see for all fathers who are about to give away their daughter, as I am.

VHS : Frosty Returns
Okay. Sat down to watch this for the first time with my son figuring that it would be good ole' Frosty with a new storyline. Wrong. We got about 5 minutes into it and I realized that someone had hi-jacked a kids character and storyline and replaced it with greeny, pagan propaganda. First, one of the little boys says "Let's go outside and make a fertility goddess". I'm like.....what the.....what the ....what is this doing in a kids Christmas time animated classic? Then the fact that Frosty doesn't need his magic hat anymore. Then the obvious corporate knocking message about a snow eliminating spray. That was it. Turned it off and instead put in the original Rankin-Bass classic. This one is going to get hung in the window as a sun catcher, that is all it is good for.

VHS : Rough Night in Jericho

This is a very enjoyable movie for western buffs of the mid-1960's before Hollywood forgot 'how' to make good westerns.

The cast is sensational comprised of many seasoned and well known actors with one of my all time favorites, George Peppard, turning in a strong performance. George has the role of a man forced to take a hand literally in a battle for a town, one with which he tried to avoid. But Dean Martin plays such an unscrupulous and moral bankrupt part that ole Dino eventually brings the roof down onto his head through Peppard, whereby Dino loses everything.

This is a good way to wile away a few hours while being entertained, there just are no bad actors in this unusual and fine western. Great fun.

Semper Fi.
