VHS : 28 Days
28 Days is a fabulous movie that stirs many emotions associated with addiction, immaturity, and insecurity. Sandra Bullock plays a character that demonstrates how many perceived strong and "vibrant" people in our lives, are too often driven by hidden insecurities and emotional pain. The movie centers around a beautiful and charismatic woman about 30 years old, that has surrounded her life with equally colorful and insecure people that routinely gather and celebrate in public places, all attempting to demonstrate that they are part of the "in-crowd". Although these people can be perceived to be having the time of their lives, it turns out they really have no life at all - and do a great job of indirectly hurting themselves and their family. Addiction to alcohol and drugs is a common outcome, ... Read More

My wife told me the whole story before watching it. It sounded interesting. But once I saw John Malkovich I groaned? This is supposed to be the bad guy? He's laughable. Who would be scared of that geek? Seriously, I was more entertained with my wife telling me the story.

I really like Christopher Walken, but this movie is a real dead dog. One of the worst movies I've ever seen - completely unrealistic, totally bad. I don't know how they got some of the actors in this stinker to show up and actually admit they had any part in this abomination. If you want a gangster movie, this isn't one - they spend more time emphasizing nudie club make scences than doing anything as far as developing a story or plot - a real stinker - not even worth the wrapper it's packaged in.

VHS : 9/11 - The Filmmakers' Commemorative Edition
I have seen many documentaries on 9/11. All of them have moved me in different ways. This particular documentary especially moved me because not only was this not supposed to be a documentary about 9/11, it also took you right inside what was going on and how those fighfighters were feeling and experiencing everything on that terrible day. I would recommend this to anyone!

VHS : Desperado
The Good Things
*Lots of good action scenes.
*Very excellent, solid filming style and quality. A vast improvement over its predecessor "El Mariachi."
*Not a bad story.
*It's well written.
*Not bad characters. Maybe not as good or memorable as "El Mariachi," but they are fun.
*Good music.

The Bad Things
*Ummm...

The Questionable Things
*A fair amount of absurdity. Some may like it, others won't.

This sequel to is a tremendous improvement over "El Mariachi" in terms of style, action, cameramanship, and overall quality. Only the story and characters seem superior in the predecessor, but are still fun in "Desperado." Anybody who enjoys action films should enjoy this.

The DVD has very good video and sound ... Read More

Zandalee, Zandalee, Zandalee.

Where do I start? Well, I watched this movie on cable a couple of times when I was still a child, and I remember it being a good but forbidden movie. I decided to buy the movie before it became obsolete and enjoy a smut classic. But watching it as an adult has shown me one thing: it's bad in every way. From the bad Louisiana accents to the narcotics inspired acting by Nicolas Cage to the pedestrian acting by Ericka Alexander to the silly script writing. It's very bad. Even the s/ex scenes are not as good as I remembered: a couple come off as rape scenes, which will always be dangerous considering how many confuse rape with consentual desire already. I guess my changing view about Zandalee says a lot about the eyes and mind of a 12 year old versus that of a 25 ... Read More

People love to dump on this movie...namely for the unrealistic plot and action. The first time I saw this it was in the theater and I felt like everyone else...I was dissapointed and it just felt like a big letdown.

However, this movie has grown on me like no tomorrow. Forget the plot and how its totally unrealistic. This movie has some of the best and funniest dialogue. It you watch the Gag Reel on the Criterion edition you'll see how much fun the actors had making this. The dialogue in this movie is funnier than most comedies out there, you just have to ignore the plot and pay attention to it. The humor is very dry and the characters all gel really well together. Its the little lines that make this movie..like when Bruce Willis is having an argument with his daughter, and to distract the Japanese ... Read More

VHS : Miller's Crossing
I had seen Fargo, and was prepped to have a good time with Miller's Crossing. I knew it was meant to be a takeoff on film noir, so I didn't expect great art. Just some fun.

Nope. Even with the stellar acting power of Gabriel Byrne and Albert Finney, this souffle falls flat. There is no -- as in NO -- plot to follow. All you see are guys dressed up like 30's mobsters, trying to talk tough and clever. But their lines aren't actually tough, and they certainly aren't clever.

Halfway in, I commented to my wife, "It's kind of hard to follow," to which she said, It's impossible. Nothing's happening." We popped the DVD out at that point, and put in another movie. Maybe if I'd stuck it through to the end, some little thing would have actually happened. But that's not the point of this kind of movie, is ... Read More
