The wacky crew of Twisted Trig Part One continue their exploration of higher mathematics, leaving the basics for the heights of unit circles, radians, graphing and trig formulae. This tape makes more sense on these topics than my teacher, as they point out relationships between triangles and the algebraic notions of abstract trig which are not covered, except theoretically in a textbook. This video took what we had been going over in class, and helped it make sense; interspersed of course with the comedic relief for which the Standard Deviants are (or should be) famous.

This is the strangest educational video that I have ever seen. The creators use a character called Idaho Jones that is "modeled" on the screen adventurer Indiana Jones. It starts with a scene similar to the opening one of "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Idaho is with a woman in a cave and has discovered a golden X. He replaces it with an algebra textbook, but it is too light, causing all the traps to be triggered. After he avoids the traps, a character modeled after the sadistic Nazi in the "Raiders" movie takes the X from him. Throughout the remainder of the tape, there are occasional short segments of Idaho as he continues the search for the golden X. This DVD provides both parts I and II of the Standard Deviants' French series. I teach high school French, and my students find the videos engaging, entertaining, and informative. By its nature, this DVD cannot offer the depth necessary to supplant any real teaching (which isn't their purpose anyway); however, it does help remind students of some grammatical and lexical basics they learn in French I. The college-age actors (non-native speakers with some questionable pronunciations here and there but clear enough for their goal) are accessible to my teen students, but their acting is meant to be over-the-top (perhaps to counter boring professors' lectures at some universities). Note that this DVD is not for learning phrases for travel.

I used this video and the accompanying workbook to prepare for the CLEP "Introduction to Psychology" exam, and I found it to be a valuable preparation tool. While the tape doesn't cover every single concept covered in the CLEP exam, it does cover most of the important concepts covered in an introductory pychology course. While the presenters in the video probably shouldn't try for careers as stand-up comics, the humorous asides included in the video make it much less dry than the typical "talking heads" presentation. All-in-all, this video is a great introduction to introductory psychology, and a more than adequate exam review.

This video set is spectacular for presenting anatomy in an educative and entertaining style. Having used many videos to explain various anatomical concepts and principles, I have found this set keeps my student awake, and even more importantly, helps them learn and apply this knowledge in a difficult and demanding curriculum---Naval Hospital Corps School!

Admittedly, this is not the most entertaining movie out there, but if you're watching a DVD called "Learn Biology", entertainment is not primarily what you're after, right? I watched this movie as the base of my studying to pass a Biology placement test for my return to college. I was not looking for entertainment...I was looking for a video that would CRAM a semester's worth of general biology into my head in two weeks. And that it did! I passed the placement test with apparently the highest score they've seen in a long time and am now heading to Anatomy & Physiology next semester. I thought that this was a well organized, presented program. The speed is perfect, and the humor breaks up the program. I actually think that they are funny. Definitely the most creative approach to teaching i've encountered.

I thought it was a fun review of all the critical topics in finance. I went on to buy the other 2 as well. Standard Deviants are really helpful to me. I would recommend them to anyone needing help.
