VHS : The Burning Season - The Chico Mendes Story
My only reason for seeing this film is because Luis Guzman is in it.
Raul Julia plays "Chico Mendes" who tried to save his people in the Amazon Rainforest. A story that needed to be told, but this film is overlong and slow-moving.
I do believe the rainforests should be saved and destroying them should be stopped.
Instead of decreasing them the forests should be expanded.
The rainforests are beneficial to our weather. Their is wildlife there and flowers used for medical research and medicine that can not be found anywhere else.
What would happen if land was just roads, concrete, buildings and dessert. I think if a patch of unhistoric dessert is bare, just plant trees there. It would look nicer than a vacant lot. it is trees that tranform our air ... Read More

VHS : Man Who Broke 1000 Chains
I first viewed this movie when I was a young child during the 80's on HBO and what I saw has stuck with me to this day. It was such an outstanding performance that I have modeled my own acting style on Val Kilmer. I have tried to find this movie in video stores on and off for years, but with no success. It's funny to find it here on Amazon but on VHS which is a completely dead medium. The fact is, Val Kilmer delivers here, along with the rest of the cast, the performance of a lifetime.

The Man Who Broke 1000 Chains is a true story about a war veteran who, desparate for money is coereced to commit robbery. Our hero tries to back out, but then is forced to help carry out the nefarious deed. The robbery goes wrong and our hero is imprisoned and forced to work on a chain gang. We see ... Read More

The other reviewers have done such a great job heralding this film, I really can't add much more other than to say that I agree--this is just a richly made piece of art that captivates. Love it.

Superb script with faultless acting. Having seen this film before (on cable), I decided to see it again in the Blu-Ray, Hi-Def version. It really blew me away. It is impossible to decide whether Raul Julia (sorely missed)or William Hurt gave the best performance. They were both mesmerizing. Watching the subtle changes in character as the film progressed was such an acting "Tour De Force". Who needs blockbuster movies loaded with CGI special effects when you can be spellbound by two extremely gifted actors that grab your attention and don't let it go. Get this without delay. You will be treated to something very rare in today's films. Quality script, direction and acting.

Roeg fans will like this film. It doesn't have all of the bravura of a Eureka, while at the same time it does have the chamber elements of Insignificance. Note, however, that the Fox Lorber DVD is horrible: it's in the 1.33 aspect ratio, and looks like a poor tv video master -- blurry, smeared, jittery. So not only is it pan-and-scan, but it's a poor pan-and-scan!

VHS : Last Prostitute
Have you got a teenage son? Are you worried about the kind of ideas he may be getting about sex and women from popular culture? Make no mistake about it; he's probably encountered porn by now, heard about "making it" from guys just a few years older than himself.

There must be dozens of movies in which "coming of age" means nothing but getting laid. And that's what Danny and Burt are after in THE LAST PROSTITUTE. They've heard about a famous prostitute who lives several states away, they've saved up their money, they've told their parents they're going to summer camp, and....

When they arrive, the guy who gave them their last lift takes off with their money and everything but the clothes on their backs. They hike the rest of the way in a drenching rain, finding Loah at her farm. ... Read More

Clint Eastwood on automatic pilot is a lot better than some peoples best films, so make no mistake this may be the worst film ever that he directed himself but its still pretty good. In fact for me it would have been 3.5 stars.

Its really a Dirty Harry film under another name, and with a decent cast including the always watchable Charlie Sheen its an easy way to pass an hour and a half. There are a couple of laugh out loud moments, especially the seat belt gag.

Of course the reason to watch the film is the man himself. Aged 61 when this was made he was still in top shape and is effortlessly cool throughout the film. Some of the dialogue isn't as good as that in the classic Dirty Harry films but there's still enough laconic lines for the Eastwood fan to get by on.

I loved this movie when I saw it on the big screen years ago. It may never be put in DVD format. It was a wonerful film but not a box office hit. It's a lot of fun to watch. So if you still have a VHS player go for it.
