I borrow this movie all the time from my best friend, so when I caught it on sale I deceided to order it for myself, the only problem is I still have not received it! I'm begining to think the Super Saver Shipping is not so great, especially since it was shipped 12 days ago and still has not arrived!

I give this 5 stars not just for being a masterpiece of a story but also as a wonderful trip to Florence (and the english countryside). Julian Sands and Helena Bonham Carter fans will also be pleased.

As a mother of two kids (ages 8 and 6), I have read nearly all of the Roald Dahl books multiple times in the past few years. We all love his writing - his stories are usually quite dark and yet offer a lot of humor, warmth and love as well. James and the Giant Peach is a wonderful story and well worth reading with your children. Mind you, there is the usual dose of Dahl meanness and nastiness but it is great story with many wonderful characters, budding relationships, and ultimately a very happy ending.

I was thus incredibly disappointed when we borrowed this DVD from our local library. The screenwriter took far too much liberty in changing things. I found it crude and insulting to the memory of Roald Dahl. If you have read the book, you know, for example, that the two ... Read More

I've loved this movie for years and bought this dvd to replace my old vhs version. I was surprised to find only one disc and moreso to discover that it is reversible. When it came to the end of side one I wasn't sure what to do, but tried flipping it over and sure enough, there was side two. I didn't know there was such a thing and a couple of friends I asked didn't know it either. I don't buy a lot of current dvd's, maybe this is old stuff, but it was news to me..lol..

Writing a play is a tiresome burden when you don't have the faintest idea what it is going to be about but you need to hand it over real soon. Fortunately, Will Shakespeare finds his muse and the authors of the screenplay also had at least a brief encounter with theirs.
Basically a romantic comedy SIL offers much more that the standard "boy meets girl, boy loses girl" scenario - they present it in a fantastically well rendered setting taking as much as they could from the Swan of the Avon.
A perfect way to spend an afternoon - you get your share of romance, adventure, and literary history (the latter should not be taken at face value, however). Do you need more?

VHS : Christmas Carol - The Movie
Being 22, I grew up knowing the story of the Christmas Carol in movies and theatrical shows. I tend to think that the one I saw most - the 1992 release - as being my favorite, but I happened upon this version during a cable TV special. I first thought, Oh geez another animated project...but I was surprised by the sheer depth, character and beautiful animation of this movie. The actors who voice the characters are brilliant (and Kate Winslet gives a stellar performance on the theme song, "What If") and the mice bring much needed fun to a rather serious kind of story; the animation is interesting (especially during the Ghost of Present scenes with the swirling colors and images intermixed with the gorgeous music), although a bit old in comparison to today's standards it is still a nice combination ... It is just a wonderful movie that did not get any play in the theatre or anywhere else. I rented it for the first time because of the cast and loved it, that is why I have added it to my collection. If we all live long enough we will go through the same thing, it's also a different period of time, but I could relate since I was on the fringe of that generation and as I look at things now maybe it was not all that bad. We have lost such an icon in Paul Newman, but I am glad that his wife is still with us. That is another thing that makes this movie so wonderfu is that Joann Woodward stars in it as his wife. They are always great and wonderful together. I'm so glad to have been able to follow Mr. Newman's career, as I'm 70y/o and saw it from the beginning. It seems that we are so caught up in special effects ... Read More

The movie follows the book. It is a great movie. I have looked at it

Streep and Maclaine are outstandingly hilarious as mother and daughter. Both these actresses also show off their vocal talents and Streep is obviously talented enough to have succeeded entirely on her singing.
