I find it frustrating with the economy being so bad to pay $74.00 to $100.00 dollars for a dvd especially a popular classic like this. This movie is amazing and one of my favorites. I higly recommend this movie. as for columbia dvd going out of print fast is nerve wrecking because u get greedy creeps who yank up the price like gas.anyhow hopefully columbia will re-issue this,it is a popular and cherished classic....

I use this in my classroom high school classroom. It shows the need and history for the civil rights legislation, but also gives tremendous insight into the workings of the Supreme Court. There is very little profanity, so it is classroom appropriate.

I was a little girl when my family saw this movie on a Friday night at the Drive-in theater when it was first released, way back when. The next morning Dad found a kennel in Santa Ana, CA that had basenji's and we went to check them out. Came home that day with a petite 6 month old red and white girl. 2 years later we added a Tri-colored boy to the family. I fell madly in love with them and always wanted one but could never afford the high price tag. Last summer I discovered the Basenji Rescue and Transport website on the internet and started watching for a red and white rescue basenji female. Thanksgiving Day "Gracie" came to live with my husband and I and we are in love. I still can't believe I have such a beautiful, sweet red girl on the end of the leash when we are out walking. Thank you BRAT and thank ... Read More

What a wonderful actor is Sidney Poiter , he could play any part. The story of the building of that chapel was excellent and how he won the Nuns over , it is in my view one of the Noir classics and I am alover of those older movies, good heart felt actors an great story lines I could watch some of my collections over and over. I knew what the story was about before I bought it and when I saw it for sale I was very pleased . To anyone who thinks Sidney is a great actor will certainly enjoy this film . I also have Defiant Ones starring him and Tony Curtis (Excellent ) and Guess Who,s Coming to Dinner . Another winner for him Sidney , Spencer Tracey and Katharine Heburn > Buy them all!

Paul Newman and Sidney Poitier play US expatriates ,both jazz musicians, living and working in Paris .Newman is in Paris because he feels more able to grow musically in a European environment while Poitier is escaping racial prejudice in the US .They meet two US tourists and pair off together ,Newman with Joanne Woodward and Poityier with Diahann Carroll .Cue much -frankly rather dull-discourse between the couples in bars ,cafes etc and frequent leisurely perambulations around the city in which they talk(my how they do talk!)about life ,love and the whole damned thing!Carroll devotes much time to trying to persuade Poitier to return to America, while woodward does the same with Newman.

The problem for me with this movis is twofold-the dull maundering script by Jack Sher ,Irene Kamp and Walter Bernstein which tries to ... Read More

Stirling Silliphant wrote the script for this movie, being the primary writer for the "Route 66" TV series in the 60's it has a very similar feeling to one of those shows. All of the drama, the monologues, the glitz and glamour (when appropriate)is there. The movie even opens with Sidney Potier driving by the Space Needle, how cool and kitch is that? An excellent film that needs to come out on DVD very soon - as does the Route 66 TV series!
Stirling Silliphant was definitely one of the best TV writers of the 60's, he passed away in April of 2006. He will be missed. He also wrote the original Poseidon Adventure (1972) (screenplay), and the Towering Inferno! Two classic disaster movies of the 70's!

Indeed, this was the early 90's and I was DEEP in the "hacker scene." Except for the fact that everyone in the movie is a bit too old, it really has the feel of that sense of power you felt when you hacked into a system, or cracked someone's lame software copy protection. But the NAME of this movie is what limited its distribution. I was invited to see this by a colleague of mine and he only told me the name. Hell, I thought it was gonna be some basketball sports film or something. But I went anyway. Was I surprised! The movie was intelligent and really spoke about how important the "electric village" would really become. But here comes this little film our of nowhere and just really NAILS it. Yes, some of the film was improbable, and the techno sequences are really showing their age if you've really followed tech like I have. But all that stuff ... Read More

VHS : Band of Angels
Band of Angels: the acting is passable, not fantastic, but fair enough for a B-Movie. The sets & costumes are wonderful to look at, which is the main reason I'm giving this one 3 stars. The story is entertaining to the end, so in that respect, this is worth seeing at least once. The one actress holding this movie back was Yvonne de Carlo. She's much too old for the part, and not at all believable as being "mulatto" or "quadroon." At times its painful watching her struggle with her lines. They should have cast an actress who was truly of mixed-race to play the part, and a much younger one at that. Then maybe this film would sing the way it was intended. Overall Band of Angels struck me as a dime-store romance novel transported to film.
