I ordered this supposedly rare color set thinking 23 dollars was a good price for fond memories....what I got was a 1960s-70 VHS quality colorized copies...yes the tapes are still faded and the color unnatural in spots...Hollywood can do anything digially these days but whomever is distributing and making money on this evidently does not care. Amazon please include a note specifing what one is getting on your site ..a disclaimer at least..you are too good a company for this kind of business selling tapes one can record over the airwaves!!!!Also they are coming out with DVDS in May I hope they are better...

What fun to curl up and watch a clean, uplifting movie again. I loved all of the Shirley Temple movies as a child and 50 years later, I still do! Of course, now I can watch them in color!

VHS : Fort Apache
Fort Apache is a 1948 western film directed by John Ford and starring John Wayne and Henry Fonda. The film was the first of the director's "cavalry trilogy" and was followed by She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) and Rio Grande (1950), both starring Wayne. The story, which screenwriter James Warner Bellah based loosely on George Armstrong Custer and the Battle of Little Bighorn, as well as the Fetterman Massacre of 1866, was one of the first to present an authentic and sympathetic view of the Native Americans involved in the battle (Apache in the film, Sioux in the real battles).

The film was awarded the Best Director and Best Cinematography awards by the Locarno International Film Festival of Locarno, Switzerland.

After the end of the American Civil War, the veteran, well-respected ... Read More

VHS : Poor Little Rich Girl
If you feel silly watching Shirley Temple films without a child, watch this one. Jack Haley and the wonderful and sexy Alice Faye are superb. There's a dark aspect with one character stalking Shirley (rather unsettling). Everyone is terrific in the film and I believe it to be Shirley Temple's best movie. I agree with one reviewer about the cruel dispatching of the nurse Collins. It was either the result of clumsy writing or editing. Otherwise this is one enjoyable, bouncy film.

VHS : Now & Forever
NOW AND FOREVER is an excellent film that I think most people will enjoy. Gary Cooper was already a superstar when this movie was released in 1934 but Carole Lombard was rapidly rising and would be a major star by the end of the year as would the amazing six-year-old Shirley Temple. Some Temple fans may be disappointed that she is not the whole show as normal for Temple vehicles, one person gives the movie a bad review in part because she does not sing but keep in mind Shirley had not yet reached full stardom and wasn't yet established as singing in her films. It's not a children's film (although my eight-year-old niece loved it, I bought her a copy) rather a film with a child in one of the leading roles so the whole family can enjoy this vehicle. Carole Lombard doesn't get to show her wonderful comic talent in this part ... Read More

VHS : Little Princess
Long before the 1995 remake supplanted the legendary Shirley Temple in the minds of young audiences; The Little Princess was a 1939 story set in Victorian England and starring the Academy Award winning actress. As a timeless story (now eighty years old) of perseverance in the face of adversity, the Little Princess evokes a full range of emotions rarely seen in modern cinema. You'll tear up as a young Shirley is forced from her home, but you'll laugh and smile during the film's dancing (Shirley is quite an accomplished tap dancer) and singing routines.

Film historians may delight to note that this was (to the best of my knowledge) the first Technicolor film that Temple starred in, and it noticeably shows, particularly when compared to some of Shirley's earlier works that have been newly colorized by classic film studio, ... Read More

VHS : Heidi (1937)
I purchased this video for my mother who will be giving it as a Christmas gift. We were blessed with getting to know a young lady from Germany who spent the year with my brother as a foreign exchange student. While here, she and another student from Austria watched our video of Heidi so they could compare it to their version. They enjoyed it so much that my mother decided to get her a copy. We are very happy with our purchase - the quick shipment and great packaging got it to us in A-1 condition. Thank you.

VHS : Just Around the Corner
Even the most talented child stars have to grow up one day. In JUST AROUND THE CORNER, you can sense the "beginning of the end" of Temple's child star career. This was Temple's final movie of 1938; the following year she'd struggle to maintain her popularity at the box office as she tried to make the difficult transition from child star to juvenile performer.

In JUST AROUND THE CORNER, Temple plays out a variation of the same story she had done so many times before. When her father (Charles Farrell) loses all his money, little Penny Hale (Temple) is pulled out of her exclusive boarding school and reunites with him in their ritzy Manhattan apartment building - where they have been forced to move from the penthouse to the basement. Instead of complaining, Penny takes positive charge of the situation and befriends an old man she believes ... Read More

VHS : Our Little Girl (1935)
This movie is very different from a usual Shirley Temple movie. But she is still so very cute. If youre a big Shirley Temple fan like me than you must buy this and if you dont like Shirley Temple (which is impossible) then dont buy it. It is a sweet movie and it is very enjoyable. Although there is only one song and no dancing. I gave it three stars because it has Shirley Temple and because it made me smile!
