Yeeees, dude, it was better than I thought it'd be and all anima isn't "cartoon level" so there, I admitted it in a public place. ;-) Besides, you knew I didn't really think these types of films truly had no value, I was joking. Don't you remember I said Princess Mononoke was "mostly OK"?

Um, hi, everybody. Uh, yeah, this Teito Monogatari is a good movie and I think it's worth the money. Time travel, spiritualism, earthquakes, anti-westernism versus pro-traditionalism, widescale monster-based destruction, yup, it's got it all. Go, Toei Studios!

Ahem.

VHS : Incident at Blood Pass
This film is sure to appeal to fans of its famous principle actors Toshiro Mifune (Yojimbo), Katsu Shintaro (Zatoichi) and Yujiro Ishihara (Baby Cart series). The film was the last film in director Hiroshi Inagaki's long career. It will please the fans of the jidai geki (historical period drama) more than the those looking for chambara (sword fighting flick).

The film is considered to be the last of four films featuring the 'yojimbo' (bodyguard) character or nameless samurai created for Mifune by Akira Kurosawa. The first two films, "Yojimbo" and "Sanjuro", are classics of the genre and have much more ambitious goals than the film we are considering here. The third film, the weakest offering amongst the the four, was "Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo" directed by Kihatchi Okamoto in which Toshiro ... Read More

Good movies for people who like viewing nudity, rape, torture, and bloody violence. My wife could not watch much of it, but Shintaro Katsu is our favorite as the blind swordsman.

4.Zatoichi Blind Swordsman's Revenge starring: Shintarô Katsu, Norihei Miki, Mikiko Tsubouchi, Takeshi Katô, Fujio Harumoto

VHS : Zatoichi Blind Swordsman's Revenge
This film stands out for its swordsplay, difficult to do considering all Zatoichi films feature superlative swordsplay. This one in particular shows what Shintaro Katsu can really do with a blade. The story here is not the strongest in the series when it really should be, considering Zato's murdered master is central to the plot. Still a solid entry, beautifully done. Director Akira Inoue consistently turned out some of the better Zatoichi films (in my opinion).

5.Zatôichi kenka-daiko starring: Shintarô Katsu, Yoshiko Mita, Makoto Satô, Kô Nishimura, Takuya Fujioka

Katsu Shintaro is the best for this roll, as he gives it a personality no one else can.

6.Shin Zatôichi: Yabure! Tojin-ken starring: Shintarô Katsu, Yu Wang, Watako Hamaki, Michie Terada, Koji Nambara

The one- armed swordsman series is very good . Zatoishi series is also very good. This film however is the best of both the one-armed swordman films and Zatoishi series. There is a duel between Zatoishi and the one-armed swordsman in the end. They cant understand each other because of the language barrier. The duel is splendid but the result...If you like martial arts films, with a plot ( a good one ) go ahead and enjoy this film

A beautiful film and engaging story. I cannot recommend the whole series enough. The just do not make films like this any more. If you are remotely interested in Japanese cinema or samurai films, go ahead and buy this DVD. It will not disappoint.
