1.Stepping Out starring: Liza Minelli, Jane Krakowski, Bill Irwin, Ellen Greene, Sheila McCarthy

VHS : Stepping Out
Liza Minelli is such a brilliantly expressive actor and dancer, that she can overcome any tired cliche that's thrown at her (starting with the title of this film), and this one has cliches that weren't even cliches in 1991. She's so great in every scene that the viewer forgets that the talents of Andrea Martin, for example, are wasted. Wasted. Shelley Winters gets a slightly better chance to show her skills, as the wizened, retired theatre exponent who nonetheless plays piano part-time for the troupe, almost *defiantly* lousy. (But at the big show, there she is in the orchestra pit!).
Yes, men are beasts throughout this early-era militant feminist flick. The only non-beast is the solitary xy-entity in the class, a sissified straight guy, badly acted and terrifically danced by Bill Irwin. ... Read More

This was the first film I saw in the theater, and it totally freaked me out. I was 5 and oh man did this movie scare and depressed me. Never saw it again the rest of my life and will NEVER let my children see it.

Thank goodness my next movie was Star Wars. Whew.

VHS : Real Monsters: Meet the Monsters
MEET THE MONSTERS is a collection of one of the greatest animated TV shows of all time, but the quality is so bad, it looks like someone taped it off the TV. Though the TV show is great, these aren't the very best Real Monsters cartoons, there are ones that are a lot better. The cartoons include:

COLD HARD TOENAILS
Ickis gets rich (human toenails are monster money) and he refuses to go to school. If you used to watch it on TV, you'll realize they showed this episode ALL THE TIME!!

ATTACK OF THE BLOBS
They showed this one all the time, also. It stands to reason, though. Since they showed two cartoons every half-hour and this one was RIGHT AFTER COLD HARD TOENAILS. Oblina claims she knows all about blobs.

KRUMM GOES HOLLYWOOD
Krumm is hired ... Read More

VHS : Alice Through Looking Glass
I never saw this growing up- but Alice in wonderland was always a favorite child hood classic.

This version includes so much that Disney has left out. However the costumes are a bit cheesy even for being a childrens movie made in the 80's- and there are waay too many songs. For an all star cast I didnt recognize 80% of the actors and I expect a better performance from pros. The scene with the caterpillar was horrible. Sammy rushed through his lines way to fast "who are you I do not see...." give the girl time to get her lines in guy...

The Hallmark all star cast version was much more enjoyable

7.A Place in the Sun starring: Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, Shelley Winters, Anne Revere, Keefe Brasselle
directed by: George Stevens

VHS : A Place in the Sun
Charlie Chaplin called George Steven's 1951 A Place In the Sun the greatest American movie he had ever seen. The passing of fifty seven years has dulled this comment somewhat but it is still an amazing film experience. The film based loosely on Theodore Dreiser's American Tragedy transports Dreiser's story to 1950's America and confronts the problems faced by returning veterans as they try to move up in a stratified society.

There are great performances by Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor and Shelly Winters as the principals caught in a love triangle that eventually leads to murder. The film is less an indictment against American capitalism than it is a love story and on the whole the editing that Steven's two screen writers (Michael Wilson and Harry Brown) did to the source material greatly ... VHS : Aaahh!!! Real Monsters - Monsters' Night Out (1997 VHS)
I've loved this show since I was a kid! (I'm twenty now) The characters are very colorful and the acting is GREAT! The Aaahh!! Real Monsters series has to be one of the most intelligent and creative cartoons to appear on Nickelodeon. It's ashame that Nick took it off air.

I took off a star only because the VHS was recorded in EP mode. Other than the poor quality, this video is a must have for all Monsters fans.

Pssst...ARM fans: please vote for a DVD release of this wonderful cartoon at the "TVShowsOnDVD" site. Thanks ;)

9.Frosty's Winter Wonderland starring: Andy Griffith, Shelley Winters, Dennis Day, Paul Frees, Jackie Vernon (II)

VHS : Frosty's Winter Wonderland
BACKGROUND: The 1976 cel animated real sequel to Frosty the Snowman, it is shorter than the original Frosty at half an hour format. Made 7 years after the original Frosty which was an hour long format. The character design was by Paul Coker Jr, who did the same work for the first special, so the visual continuity works very well. Frosty gets a wife named Crystal (Played by Shelley Winters). While the first show was narrated and sung by Jimmy Durante, this time we have the voice talents of Andy Griffith. The famous voice actor Paul Frees stars as Jack Frost, and the policeman. Frees was a regular at the studio and had voiced the policeman, ticket seller, and Santa in the original. Dennis Day voiced the Parson, and Jackie Vernon voiced Frosty just like he did in the original. The writer is Romeo Muller, just like the original ... Read More
