This is an odd choice to get the full Criterion treatment as it's a fairly tame cold war romantic comedy thriller with a very low-key romance and few real thrills or laughs. Charade this ain't. Good location shooting, and it's interesting to think there was a time when a mainstream entertainment would cater to a mature audience. But, be prepared for a very mellow affair.

Not sure why this merits an "R" rating as all Ned Beatty's profanities have been very obviously overdubbed.

The only reason I bought this video is because of John Femia (he played Tony), of whom I am a great fan. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how good this film is otherwise. It certainly kept my attention all the way through, although it was heartbreaking at times. All in all a good movie, certainly worth watching.

This movie falls into the "so bad it's good" category. All the actors are terrible, even Henry Fonda's cameo stinks. Some of the scenery is great, some is obviously phony. But somehow it is watchable, perhaps because you keep imagining what is being parodied, especially toward the end. Yet it gives one a twinge of regret when it's over.

So much better than all the schlock crap that is being peddled as "spoof" today. This is a truly funny movie. It will go down in history as setting a standard that has yet to be reached in its genre. Classic horror comedy at its finest!

I havent actually bought the movie yet,but saw it many years ago on TV.The reason I came searching for it is because it reminds me of my 12 yr old daughter..She loves football and was told girls arent allowed to tryout for her schools football team. She was obviously not happy about it.Even if she didnt make it,would like to have been given a chance to try.So that has me in the mood to watch the movie now!

VHS : Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
Near future for the 1970s, that is. A good movie and one of the ones that rarely gets rebroadcast today. In this one Caesar, the son of two apes from the far future whi were sent back in time, has grown to adulthood and must hide his identity from the State, which is determined to prevent the takeover of the world by intelligent apes. They are pretty ruthless in their methods, needless to say.

This is a masterpiece without a doubt, decades ahead of its time and a glittering milestone in the history of both the western genre and American filmmaking. Frank Mazzola, a genius of montage editing artistry adds a new dimension of delight and rapturous beauty to this brilliant work lifting it into the pantheon of timeless cinematic perfection. A feast for the eye, the mind and the soul. Bravo to all involved in re-issuing this new cut.

VHS : Battle for the Planet of the Apes
Following the rise of the apes and some sort of man-made catastrophe (probably nuclear war) a community of apes and humans live together in peace. It's the evil human survivors of the nuclear war who still live in New York City who have an issue with the situation and all sorts of hijinks ensue.

Probably the weakest film in the series it is also the one that really requires the viewer to have a strong grasp of what went on in the other movies, especially Battle for the Planet of the Apes. Still, it IS good sci-fi!

10.President's Analyst starring: James Coburn, Godfrey Cambridge, Severn Darden, Joan Delaney, Pat Harrington Jr.

Released in the 1960s, this film is a satiric look at the 60s, at Cold War tensions, at secrecy, at psychiatry, at government, and a few other themes. Substitute the "global war on terror" and fits ever so nicely as a film for the 21st century.
