Don't Believe any of the negative reviews about this film. I love this movie!!. I saw it on T.V. years ago, rented it on V.H.S. at some point, and have been waiting for it to come out on D.V.D.forever.(Along with other obscure favorites like "the Mad Woman of Chaillot"-starring Katherine Hepburn,"a Thousand Clowns"-starring Jason Robards, and, "the Slender thread"-Starring Sidney poitier; which it seems may finally be released on disk). I think these would make great criterion releases due to their off-beat but original natures.
Audrey Hepburn is Beautiful as always and exhibits an ethereal innocense appropriate to the character. I can't visualize any modern actress I know of being able to pull this off in this post-womans lib era.(can you imagine any of them playing a virgin??!). The music is ... Read More

VHS : Geisha Boy
In THE GEISHA BOY, Jerry Lewis provides a performance with equal shades of subtlety and comic brilliance. The colourful backdrop of Japan is a treat to see, and the supporting cast is equally fine.

Small-time magician Gilbert "The Great" Wooley (Jerry Lewis) and his rabbit Harry are part of a USO tour of Japan, but the visit takes an unexpected turn when Harry catches the attention of a shy little orphaned Japanese boy and his concerned aunt. Gilbert is the only one who seems to draw the boy out of his sorrows, and pretty soon a romance has blossomed with Aunt Kimi (Nobu McCarthy), too. But will Gilbert be able to leave everything in order to be with them?

THE GEISHA BOY allowed Jerry Lewis the opportunity to play some dramatic material; his scenes with Robert Hirano (as the little ... Read More

Nobody Drowns in Mineral Lake

TOKYO JOE (1949) may not be one of Humphrey Bogart's classic films, but it is certainly an entertaining thriller that features Bogie playing the kind of hard-boiled character that pleased his audiences.

Set in post-war Japan, the Stuart Heisler-directed picture has Bogart cast as an ex-serviceman returning to Tokyo, his home before the attack on Pearl Harbor. He is surprised to learn that his wife (Florence Marly), who he thought was dead, has divorced him and is now married to attorney Alexander Knox. He also learns that he has a child.

To stay in Japan, Bogart forms an alliance with ex-Secret Service head Sessue Hayakawa. They start an air-freight business together, ... Read More
