VHS : My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Haven't we all wished that we could go back and make it all better? H.D., a not so great bull rider is hurting, physically and emotionally. He goes home to heal his busted ribs and learns that his sister has put his father (H.D.'s hero) in a home for old folks. H.D. can't abide it. He needs money to save the family homestead and all he knows is bull riding. The icing on the cake is that his beautiful highschool sweetheart is now a widow. The rodeo is coming to a town not too far from home. Can H.D. draw and ride the bull that's never been rode? Does he have one good 8 second ride left in him? Can he stop rodeoing from town to town? The top prize is $100,000! Enough to save the homestead and start a new life!
This is just a great movie for anyone that still dreams.

VHS : Ride With the Devil (1999)
Released in 1999 "Ride with the Devil" is a Civil War tale focusing on Southern guerrilla fighters known as Bushwhackers, mostly young men who stage daring raids on Union forces and communities along the Missouri/Kansas border. The story includes Quantrill's infamous 1963 raid on Lawrence, Kansas, which he burned & pillaged and murdered over 150 unarmed men, women and children.

The story shines the spotlight on the son of a German immigrant (Tobey Maguire aka Spider-man), a beautiful woman (Jewel) and an ex-slave (Jeffrey Wright), all of whom take up the Southern cause. I enjoyed how Tobey and Wright slowly develop a close friendship, as well as Wright's growing sense of freedom as the story progresses. Jewel makes an impressive acting debut and should do more films, she's ... Read More

I've been watching & listening to The Eagles for more years than I'll mention. This is a great album! I've watched it many times, and just bought a copy for my son in Austin, who's really into music. He'll love it!

I have a good copy of this movie on VHS and this was an excellent horror genre movie. With all the stars in this movie, I don't see why they don't release it on DVD. This is your classic Good vs. Evil flick with a twist. There are actually two evils in this one. If you like classic horror and you haven't seen this one, you're in for a treat. This will captivate you guaranteed!

VHS : Tall Tale: Unbelievable Adventure
TALL TALE has the potential to be an excellent film. The possibilities of a tall tale adventure with Pecos Bill, Calamity Jane, Paul Bunyan, and John Henry should be great. This isn't.
The two stars I gave it are for two performances that head and pretty good cast and the music by Randy Edelmen (the genius behind GETTYSBURG's score). Patrick Swayze is an excellent actor, and now I fully appreciate his ability to turn a complete dud of a role into gold. He takes the role of Pecos, a shallow character, and steals every moment onscreen. When he flies in and out of his tornado, you don't even glance at the larger-than-life twister because you're mesmorized by Swayze. He's excellent.
The other good acting is by Stephen Lang (also from GETTYSBURG) in a brief role as the hero's dad. The music ... Read More

VHS : Hunt for Red October
Some punk junkie named Sick Boy in the the Danny Boyle cult classic TRAINSPOTING espouses a "theory" of his in which he uses the career of Sean Connery to illustrate. Basically he believes that for everybody in life at one point you got it, then you don't. There's a period in your life, probably when you were younger, when you could have had *it* but then you loose *it* and are past your prime. Well, the other character listening to this was right to feel unimpressed by this cocky punk's disrespectful and plainly dumb understanding of human accomplishment. Sean Connery was the original and coolest James Bond but it was not all downhill from those glory days. Connery's performance THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER disproves Sick Boy's theory (along with a few others in his career btw). Alec Baldwin is also good, his ... Read More

7.Apocalypse Now starring: Sam Bottoms, Marlon Brando, Bo Byers, Colleen Camp, Robert Duvall

VHS : Apocalypse Now
Alright, let me start off by saying that, although this dossier has a huge amount of lost footage, features, and pretty much everything but the kitchen seat, it is FAR from "complete". There was an exclusive 3-Disc version sold at Target which has seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth. I find it ironic they call the more common two-disc dossier the essential version, when it doesn't even have the trailers or the "Compound Explosion" scene, regardless of the fact that it has everything else. There's also a work print version flying around, and Francis Ford Coppola even said it himself that the raw, raw footage went for over 5 hours long and added-up to over a million feet of film total.

I got this for $9, but I never thought WHY it was marked-down. I think I have a theory now. This packaging ... Read More

VHS : Urban Cowboy
I realize that Travolta was at the height of his stardom and Winger was an up-and-coming and talented actress. I also realize that the honky-tonk mechanical bull-riding mentality had its season of popularity.

Even so, it is horrifying to me that a popular cable station describes Bud as a "good old boy" when he hit Sissy twice. One abusive incident would have been enough to cost this character the "good" label.

In short, Sissy goes from the abusive Bud to the abusive "real cowboy", then back to the abusive Bud. It is rather bizarre that Bud gets angry and outraged over somebody ELSE hitting Sissy, although he does not seem to have a problem doing it himself! What an awful example to put out there for young girls to see.

Despite the star power and the short-lived mechanical bull ... Read More

VHS : Dr Strangelove
A very intelligent yet hilarious look at the insanity of war and those responsible for waging it in the nuclear age. Full of 4 Star performances by Peter Sellers (in multiple roles), Sterling Hayden, George C. Scott and Slim Pickens, the epitome of the commie-fighting cowboy

The behind-the-scenes companion DVD is just as much of a treat as the film itself: the set designers made educated guesses as to the interior of a B-52 bomber, and turned out to be so accurate that the Air Force got concerned and Stanley Kubrick was worried that the FBI would come after him; Peter Sellers was originally set to play the Slim Pickens role in addition to the President, Group Captain Mandrake, and Dr. Strangelove -- but a dispute with Kubrick, Sellers own near-exhaustion from playing 3 other roles, plus an "accident" all conspired ...
