VHS : The House of the Spirits
At least that's what it meant to me. Replace "South America" in all reviews by the word "Chile", because that is where the story belongs in its cut and dry facts. A wealthy family, a Shakespearean love between a peasant's son and a land owner's daughter; betrayal, rage, passion, violence and murder, ghosts (spirits), rebelion and freedom: all these are just some of the ingredients portraid in the movie with a great line up, awsome landscape and fairly good soundtrack. If you ever visit Chile, please see this movie and you'll understand part of the Chilean character and history: under our modern facade, there's still Biancas, Pedros and Truebas.
The movie personally helped me see my own story and find new connections between myself, my family and the culture where I was born and raised: ... Read More

VHS : Kama Sutra (Rated)
Released in '97 the exotic, sensual and visually alluring `Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love' is an intoxicating story detailing the intense, complex intermingling sensations of romance, sexual attraction and obsession as played out in a royal family in 16th century India.

While I was remotely familiar with the contents of the classic Indian sex manual of the same name I began my viewing of the fillm `Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love' with no expectations as to how explicit this production might be. For all I knew it may have turned out to be nothing more than soft core porn of an exotic nature. Fortunately what unfolded was indeed a pleasant surprise. The Indian landscape, architecture and costumes, the mesmerizing soundtrack and the captivating storyline are everything an audience could ask for. ... Read More

It is what it is another Sharon Stone classic. I really like Gena Rowlands as an actress however, I think Sharon Stone did a better job at portraying Gloria. I really like the part when she comes home after being released from jail and the scene with her boyfriend & his goons in the Apartment. She acts & talks just like a tough moll gal from New York. I love this movie, that's why I bought it to add to my collections of DVD's so I can watch it over & over when ever I want. Sharon Stone is not given the credit she deserves for this movie. Sharon Stone is one classy woman.

VHS : A Perfect Murder
As far as thrillers go, this is my favorite kind. I loved the story of an unhappy wife having an affair and the husband who decides to pay her lover off by having him kill her so he can collect all the money she's worth which is a lot. There are many twists and turns and things don't quite go as expected which just makes it all the more interesting and exciting. Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow are both actors I truly enjoy so they make the film all the better. And Gwyneth looks as beautiful as ever here. I have not seen Hitchcock's Dial M For Murder, but I read the producers felt like there were many areas to explore with this type of story that wasn't explored in Dial M. I also love how the Emily character was portrayed as a strong, smart woman who longs for happiness but unfortunately is not ... Read More

VHS : Wild Life Adventures: March of Crabs
A captivating look at the lives of Red, Blue, and Robber crabs that inhabit Christmas Island. It's unbelievable the number of crabs that migrate back and forth across this island each year. The film is beautifully filmed; Christmas Island is rich in land and sea fauna. See these crabs in their natural (and sometimes un-natural) environment.

As one reviewer pointed out..blotchy.
Laura Doern does an excellent job....but can't save this film.

The men chasing one of the characters are meant to be menacing but they come off as inept....as if lost.
Raul Julia could have done this role in his sleep.
The mark of a good film IMHO is that it should leave you 'feeling' something. It did...the feeling of being let down.
No good reason to own this flick.
Perhaps the real torture in this film was watching it. Maybe I should remove 1/2 a star.
Much of this film was shot in Toronto...so that kept me somewhat curious.
