VHS : Quiet Place in the Country (Amazon.com Exclusive)
A mad artist can't separate fantasy from reality and takes us on a 106 minute, sleep-inducing journey through his own illusions, which include a vision of a girl who died twenty years ago in an Italian villa. Cinematic chloroform from what should have been a fascinating film. Had the music not been so frightfully avant-garde, I might have enjoyed this a little more. I got the point that the music reflected his inner turmoil, but it was just a bit too noisy and chaotic for me. Also, his imitation of a three year old who can't keep the same train of though for more than five minutes de-railed my interest in the story. Vanessa Redgrave, especially, and the rest of the cast give fine performances, but the movie just didn't work for me. This film was a real disappointment and I kept thinking what ... Read More

VHS : I Saw What You Did
The DVD includes the original trailer as well as a brief promo that Vincent Castle did for the movie. "I Saw What You Did" shows what happens when you make too many prank phone calls! I love this movie because it's so funny. These kids in this film are so totally silly. And everyone was so polite. What's up with that? Were people really like this in the 1960's? As usual Joan was perfect. My favorite scene was the one where she went nuts on Libby and chased her all the way back to the car. It was so funny, I thought Joan was going to have a heart attack. Rock on.

VHS : Belly of the Beast (Dol)
I give Steven Seagal and director Siu-Tung Ching ("A Chinese Ghost Story") a lot of credit for this film: after so many lacklustre action-thrillers with delusions of seriousness starring the martial arts master, the mindset of "Belly of the Beast" is one of "forget the storyline - bring on the action!". Believe it, this is a wonderfully refreshing change of focus for the DTV-mired Seagal, whose face has yet to see the silver screen again.

In "Beast", Seagal is an ex-CIA operative whose daughter is kidnapped while vacationing in Thailand by a violent rebel organization. Seagal saddles up to rescue her after employing his agent-turned-monk ex-partner (Byron Mann, "Street Fighter"), and the two of them embark against insurmountable political and spiritual odds.
Mind you, these "political ... Read More

Two episodes of the old Virginian series spliced together do not a good movie make.

Boo-boo in the film (warning, the following is a spoiler, of sorts: The kid does not want his father to whip him, so he shoots his father with a six-shooter. The problem is the six-shooter wasn't invented when the guy was a kid.

Whoops!

I was interested in seeing this because Christina Crawford makes a cameo, and I'm a big fan. However, what's with the steep price? Even for $20 from a Marketplace Seller, I don't want to spend that much for something I may only watch once. These titles are not available for rent at the video stores.
