VHS : Murder By Phone
I've watched my video copy of this movie twice. Enjoyed it both times. Plot may be kind of crazy, but so what? It's still a fun movie. The plot has been described successfully by another reviewer, so I'll not waste time describing it again.

Main reason I'm writing this "review". Here in the United States, this movie is known as MURDER BY PHONE. It was released on Warner Home Video. It runs 80 mins. I have a copy of it. BUT, THIS MOVIE WAS A CANADIAN-MADE FEATURE AND THE ORIGINAL RUNNING TIME WAS 95 MINS. IT WAS EDITED BY 15 MINS. FOR ITS AMERICAN RELEASE. HOW DO I KNOW THIS, YOU MAY ASK? WELL, SINCE YOU'VE GOT THIS FAR I WILL GLADLY EXPLAIN. I ALSO HAVE A VIDEO COPY ON THE ASTRAL VIDEO LABEL FROM CANADA. RELEASED IN 1983. RUNNING TIME IS 95 MINS AS STATED ON BACK OF THE BOX. TITLE ... Read More

VHS : Still of the Night
This is a good thriller with lots of creepy touches. Roy Scheider is a recently divorced Manhattan psychiatrist. One of his patients is murdered and both the police and the victim's beautiful girlfriend (Meryl Streep) who seems to be the top suspect contact him. There is an immediate romantic attraction between Scheider and Streep and Scheider attempts to solve the murder using information the deceased man revealed to him during his twice weekly appointments. The most important info is a disturbing dream which is reenacted on screen in a memorable and truly chilling manner.

The deceased and Streep's character worked together at "Christen's" auction house specializing in antiquities and much of the film is set in this affluent world of high end art. Manhattan at night is used to ... Read More

One of my favorite movies with Whoopie - I remember seeing it when it was first released in the theatre (at least a dozen times). I look everywhere for yellow tennis shoes!!!! This movie is a goodtime, one of my "rainy day on the couch" movies.

VHS : Tremors 4 - The Legend Begins
When first saw this movie, I thought it was as good as the origional Tremors movie and had charachter development, an entertaining storyline, and plenty of scares, laughes, and suspense.

Plot;

The movie starts out in 1889, beginning in a mine where someone is suddenly pulled up and, when is pulled down, is found with his head eaten off.
It is later revealed that seventeen workers were killed in that one day, and most of the people of what is known as Rejection Valley (soon to be changed to Perfection) flee from their homes, leaving less than ten people there.
Desperate, the remaining people telegram a message for help, and get a response that the owner of the mine is coming, and, becom excited, hoping that this owner will help them with their current predicament, ... Read More

Ted (Kevin Costner) comes home from China to 1920s Canada and he's trying to smuggle guns and trying to get people to give him either guns or money or both, and his younger brother is involved in smuggling liquor to the U.S., and then there's something about socialists. Go read the summary on the IMDB--I wish I'd read it before watching this, because I really didn't get all that from watching the movie 3 times. I certainly didn't catch that he was in love with the night club owner--I thought that was just sex and business.

The 20s atmosphere was excellent, and it's odd, but the whole confusion thing just fit with the film as a whole. There was very little dialogue, and what there was was terse. The scenes were mostly dimly lit, and if I'd paid very close attention, I could probably come up with ... Read More

I have always liked this film and I was so glad when it was finally released on DVD--especially the newer version w/a few extras (blue background on the cover). Redford & Winger are a charming, combative romantic duo with real spark & heart. Some of the antics are a bit overplayed--especially in relation to Darryl Hannah's femme fatale character, Chelsea. But, it's a winning film nonetheless, thanks to Redford & Winger and the smash soundtrack "Love Touch".
