Where do I begin to tell you what a relief to see that this classic has been made available for home viewing. It was 1975 and I was 11 years old watching late night TV when a movie, I have never heard of, came on and I was immediately drawn in. Truly captivated by Anthony Newley and Sandy Dennis. I was exposed to my very first tear-jerker and to say I was touched would be a complete understatement. For years, every week I would scan through my TV Guide to find it but to no avail. This was a day when all Movies did not go to VHS after it's release. In my 20's I actually went to see Anthony Newley live in "Stop The World I Want To Get Off" (which he wrote and starred in) at a local theatre. My quest was to meet him and ask when I will see "Sweet November" again. After the show I begged to go ... Read More

Overall a highly entertaining movie. The growth and maturing of friendships which translates into individual growth. The quality of the transfer from film to video is okay. It could have been better. A good film for couples.

For fans of old Hollywood, you'll love this movie!
Burton and Taylor are just about at their best here.
The constant jab and poke that these two go for is amazing, both looking the vocabular knock out punch!
It remans one of my all time fav movies to watch.
I encourage everyone who has the slightest interest in how
great the old studios made movies to watch this film!

The opening scenes of this "dark comedy" feature great 1950s cars, decor, costumes, and musical score! Perky housewife "Mom" is a kitchen whiz who serves up tasty looking left-overs every night. White shirt-and-tie "Dad" is ravenous after putting in long days at Toxico. (Clever company name!) Little Michael just wants to make friends at his new school - and eat something for dinner that's not "mystery meat." What a wholesome, 50s era set-up for a comedy about cannibals! I was having a fun time and even asking for "seconds" at the dinner table - until the little boy started having nightmares. Then I lost my appetite completely.

This is NOT a comedy and definitely not for the kiddies. The first fifteen minutes or so are fine, but watch out! When the film-makers start splashing blood around, ... Read More

This movie is a must see for teachers. It really helps one to see the humor and the obstacles teachers face. Sandy Dennis is wonderful as the naive new teacher and all that she goes through during her first year. I recommend highly.

You don't see acting like this any more these days. Kim Stanley gives a brillant performance as does Geraldine Page, Sandy Dennis and Shelley Winters. Highly recommend this if you appreciate acting as an art form.

The tension is so palpable here that it's a character in and of itself.

Tom Ripley, as played by Dennis Hopper, feels truer to his EASY RIDER role than the character in the novel upon which the movie is based, as some critics have said. I say "feels truer" because I haven't seen the first or read the second, but I believe those critics.

But that doesn't matter. Not at all. This movie is about Jonathan Zimmerman, as played by Bruno Ganz. Every time he's on the screen, which is most of the time, you're just gripped in both your mind and your gut and you can't turn away, reach down for a drink of water, hit pause and go to the bathroom, or anything.

I'm one of those weird animals who's just as comfortable with Hollywood crap as I am with literary classics. My wife's non-American ... Read More

As a long time Poison fan, this two-star rating pains me. Especially since one of the stars is for the amount of time Bret spent with his shirt off. Very nice. Anyway, the other star is for the somewhat interesting story. With the amount of time it took Bret to finish this movie (I remember hearing about it back in the late 80's), you'd think he would have done a minimal amount of legal research? A lot of this is just poorly researched nonsense. Like a story written by a kid in junior high who has no access to books or the internet, and just imagines what it must be like to be on death row. The movie attempts a Big Twist! at the end, but really didn't make any sense. I managed to watch it all the way through, so I guess it wasn't that bad. Except for the Sheens, the acting is just as bad as you suspect.
