VHS : Imitation of Life
I have seen this movie dozens of times, but, loaned it out to someone and they did not give it back. Each time I see it, I cry like a baby. I recently lost my Mother 8-15-2008, and after the funeral some body made the comment that her funeral was one of the most beautiful funerals that they have seen, since watching Imitation of Life, and they were right, only thing is we did not have a horse and carriage for my Mom. It also, reminds me that you should be proud of your heritage and treat your Mother right, because you never know when she will be gone(like mine was 64 and passed in her sleep), I did not have time to say good bye, but, there are no regrets as to how I treated my Mother. I have recommended this video to everyone I come across, it is a great lesson on life itself.

VHS : Until They Sail
Though filmed during a time when the moral codes prevented even the slightest hint of inpropriety, Until They Sail dealt with quite a scandalous subject: emotional and sexual relationships which sprung willy-nilly during the stressful times of war. The movie captures all aspects of wartime lonliness: youngest sister Evelyn's harmless puppy crushes, middle sister Dee's passionate sexual flings, big sister Anne's unexpected heartfelt first love, and Barbara's recovery as a young widow in the arms of ever-gorgeous Paul Newman. But what makes this movie so worth watching isn't just the diversity of the stories but the ability to capture the raw emotions and truth felt by the characters. In one poignant scene by a lake, Newman's character forwarns Simmons that he has no aspirations of love or marriage ... Read More

VHS : Gidget (1959)

The reputation of the original "Gidget" (1959) has eroded over the years thanks to two weak sequels and a truly dreadful television series. So if you have never seen the original don't dismiss it based on the extremely shallow content of the Gidget stuff that came later. While not a good double-feature match for "Rebel Without a Cause", it is dark and serious enough to still have some relevance

While presenting a rather tame portrait of California's surf and beatnik counterculture, it fits solidly with the better coming-of-age/generational revolution stuff of the 1950's and 60's.

Sixteen year-old Francis Lawrence (Sandra Dee at her most innocent) is the film's title character; girl plus midget equals Gidget. Dee managed to avoid the other two features and the television ... Read More

6.Portrait in Black starring: Lana Turner, Anthony Quinn, Richard Basehart, Sandra Dee, John Saxon

VHS : Portrait in Black
Producer Ross Hunter was responsible in the late 1950's and early 1960's of reviving the careers of numerous top flight leading ladies that had earlier experienced lulls in their careers. He totally transformed the career of Doris Day with the classic "Pillow Talk",in 1959. Another of his successful collaborations was with veteran actress Lana Turner who starred in a series of highly glossy and very successful dramas for Hunter. "Portrait in Black", marked their second collaboration after the highly successful "Imitation of Life", the previous year. While certainly not as strong a film as that effort "Portrait in Black", is a beautiful looking, highly entertaining melodrama involving infidelity, murder, and deceit set against the plush surroundings of San Francisco's exclusive Nob Hill district. I did wonder if we'd be able to play and view these two DVDs, which we sure wanted to have for ourselves.

But being in a different Zone Code in Australia, we are having a problem viewing them!!!

We had no problem, with all of those "Deadliest Catch" series, so expected the some run with these!!!!

But that wasn't to be, obviously!!!!

We may have to look at buying another DVD Player, that will accept your different Zone code!!!!

So there you have it!!!!! But your service, was "next to none" and we won't hesitate to acquire your services along the way, but will need to be more careful, of what DVDs we order, in the future!!!!!

We could be interested in the "Ice Truckers" series, but it depends on the Zone coding!!!

I am a big Sandra Dee fan and it was good to see her in something after such a long absence, however...
The movie wasn't just "a sleeper", it was dead.
I tried a few times and couldn't get through the whole thing, so I guess the ending will remain a mystery. Even for someone with a tremendous need for closure, I am okay just letting it hang there.
