Ignore the other reviews. My kids, 7 and 4 watched this video in our car dvd player. They became very upset when, in the first several minutes of the movie, one child explains to another child:
1. There is NO Santa Clause
2. How could Santa go down all the chimney's in the world in 1 night, it's not logical
3. There also is NO GOD
4. And NO HEAVEN

This becomes especially upsetting in the movie because the child who is being told this, sadly exclaims, "this(no heaven)can't be true because what about my mom?" (Her mom is dead and the child had previously thought her mom was in Heaven.) This sad, upset child then tells the other child, "You are not my friend anymore."

At this point, I ejected the movie from the DVD player. My kids were ... Read More

VHS : The Sacketts
I prefer Selleck's newer westerns. Still the cast in this movie is a who's who for westerns. Ben Johnson stills the show. Glen Ford is as solid as ever. The "Sackett boys" make it look easy. This is now a classic movie from the master classic western writer.

Tombstone - The Director's Cut (Vista Series) As opposed to the DVD Tombstone which is a single DVD cased in a black box contianer, the "Director's Cut" provides us with a wonderful "Silhouette-Beige" Earthtone - Double-folding Jacket which contains two (2) DVD's. Wow! Next, this double-folding jacket slides into a TOMBSTONE color-portfolio box! The earthtone colors are simply amazing to view; I was so moved by the professional artistry that it took me almost an entire hour to cease reviewing its breath taking beauty.
Once inside the jacket, one discovers a continuing theme of this same earthtone artistry. Director George A. Cosmatos provides us with surprize after surprize and his cut answers one of the most lingering unanswered questions that the regular single DVD encased in black ... Read More

VHS : Lifeguard
Filmed in 1975, "Lifeguard" relays the story of an aging L.A. lifeguard (Sam Elliott) during the summer of '75. He suffers an early mid-life crisis when his friends and family continually reveal their disappoval of his career choice. This is heightened when he attends his 15-year high school reunion where he reunites with a recently-divorced ex-flame (Anne Archer). To complicate matters Elliot runs into a cute underage teen on the beach (Kathleen Quinlin) who makes him feel like an Adonis.

I remember cathing "Lifeguard" on tv sometime in the '90s and all I can remember is what a great film it was. I never heard of it before but the story took me right in and captivated me throughout. This is truly a secret gem from the 70s.

What makes it work so well? For one thing ... Read More

5.One Against the Wind starring: Judy Davis, Sam Neill, Anthony Higgins, Christien Anholt, Kate Beckinsale
directed by: Larry Elikann

VHS : One Against the Wind
Mary Lindell is a household name in Great Britain. Thank God that HALLMARK took the time to recreate her daringly true escapades in smuggling evaders into unoccupied zones during WW2. For dramatic purposes, much of ONE AGAINST THE WIND has been rearranged and condensed . As exciting as this presentation of Mary Lindell's exploits is, her real life was even MORE dramatic than what HALLMARK assembled!( Read the book NO DRUMS,NO TRUMPETS by J.B. Wayne!!!!!)

Nevertheless, this film is extraordinary for what it accomplishes and Judy Davis is spot-on as the resourceful, courageous and mulishly strong-minded Mary. It is significant to note that Mary Lindell was 45 years old when she and her family began smuggling people out of occupied France, first by sheer bluff and boldness! Her ... Read More

I did not particularly liked the movie. I think it was done on the cheap, too full of cliches, macho posturing, and as usual depicted the foes of Bowie, Crockett, and other defenders of the Alamo as unconscionable, mean people, misstatements, and with omissions of truths. I personally do not recommend the movie to anyone.

7.The Great Gatsby starring: Robert Redford, Mia Farrow, Bruce Dern, Karen Black, Scott Wilson

VHS : The Great Gatsby
Perhaps some classics cannot be made into movies. THE GREAT GATSBY, which makes anybody's list of the great American novels, may just be one. Having just seen this film again for the first time since its release, I think I need to reread the novel. The chief flaw of the movie is the casting of Mia Farrow as Daisy Buchanan. While she certainly can act and become hysterical at the smell of a room full of roses, it is difficult to understand the power that she holds on Gatsby. While Redford makes an adequate if not outstanding Gatsby, Sam Waterston, a very fine actor indeed, is perfectly cast as Gatsby's neighbor. Bruce Dern works as the boorish Tom Buchanan, Karen Black isn't bad as his woman on the side, and Scott Wilson as her cuckolded husband who seeks revenge is well cast.

The music by Nelson ... Read More

8.Hi-Lo Country starring: Billy Crudup, Woody Harrelson, Patricia Arquette, Cole Hauser, Enrique Castillo

VHS : Hi-Lo Country
Hi-Lo country's plot has already been summarized here a few dozen times, so I'll get right to the element that followed me after I finished this film. The principle friendship, between Crudup's and Harrelson's characters, appear like many of our own at first glance: rock-solid, inseparable, and fixed upon the strongest loyalties. They fight for one another and watch each other's backs like hawks; and yet, when a woman comes into play and divides them, the wheels of their loyalty come unhinged and a crashing course of events takes place.

I found this to be the chief factor of the film, and one that has essentially been the downfall of many friendships in my own circle of influence. Hi-lo country doesn't show us the way it should be when faced with divided loyalties; it shows us the way it actually ... Read More

The funniest show you'll ever see. Where in the world are the rest of the episodes? Like the one where Chris learns to spell from consuming toxic waste and the one where they go camping and eat some berries that make them see strange things. This tape is a must for all comedy fans!!!!!!!!!!
