VHS : Ivanhoe (1982)
For one whom has read the book, the movie captures the essence of the story - chivalry, romance, prejudice, and action. The actors in the movie did an excellent job. The character Ivanhoe was well portrayed and the relationship between Rebecca and Ivanhoe was well developed and believable. The movie addressed all the key activities within the book and succeeded in presenting the story without the audience feeling like the story was being rush.

The down side is that the movie may only be available in a VHS version. VHS does have a tendency to age and the clearness of the video and audio may be affected. It would be nice to have a DVD version of the movie available. Even though the movie may only be available in a VHS version -the positive aspects of the movie outlined above ... Read More

VHS : Monster Rancher Vol 4. - Problem With Pixie
Between Monster Rancher, Digimon, and Pokemon, I believe that this show is the best of the three. Monster Rancher is the most believable of all three. The stories are action packed, but fun too. I'll admit, the dialouge is corny, but it is for the other shows, as the dialouge is with most kids shows. The animation and colors are excellent, and the characters are very well developed. This video is rad, and I think anyone who likes fun and adventure will love this show more than anything. Really.

This is an astonishingly bad transfer to DVD for a film that I don't believe is in the public domain -- it's very tough to get through. It's a pity, as this is still an intriguing take on religion and imperialism. Shaw's performance as Pizzaro is both commanding yet convincingly conveys his credulousness in his new surroundings. Plummer as the Incan ruler with his petulant keening is more of a distraction. He sounds like Olivier and looks like Cher.
If this were ever restored, I'd give it another go.

VHS : Extreme Dinosaurs: Out of Time
By no means have I seen this video. I have seen the episodes in it on regular TV, and they ROCK! Extreme Dinosaurs is among the very coolest shows I have ever seen. As said in the title, the only half human/half animal mutant show that tops it is Street Sharks! This one comes in close second place! This is the first one and their origin. An evil alien named Argor comes along to Earth 65 million years ago. He decides to make new minions for himself. He beams a T-Rex, a Triceratops, a Stegosaurus and a Pteranodon aboard. He gives them human intelligence and amazing power, and turns them into Spike, T-Bone, Bullzeye and Stegz(all 4 are super-cool, don't get me wrong, but that's the order I'd rank them in)Anyway, they reject Argor's plan to work for evil and are dumped. They survive, while Argor beams aboard 3 vicious ... Read More

VHS : Too Late the Hero
Just finished watching this pro-war movie. I thought it was surprisingly good. The fake anti-war beginning gets taken over by the pro-war middle and end. As usual, you have the "i hate the army/navy" soldier/sailor, but in the end, their true heroism comes out. This is one of those movies that gives buddy war movies a good name. And pro-war movies. Cain and Robertson play off each other pretty good. I like 50s, 60s, & 70s Britiss actors just to listen to their accents(Burton, O'Toole, Harris, etc.) It's hard to imagine getting such a crappy mission with only 1 day before a 4-week leave period for Robertson. It is said that it had a message to tell about the Vietnam War at the time, but Robertsond and Cain play the "die for my country" heroes just with the right amount of cynicism and patriotism. Worth watching, ... Read More

7.Janis starring: Janis Joplin, Sam Andrew, Dick Cavett

VHS : Janis
The first sight I ever had of Janis Joplin was in 1977 when I was 11 years old, and with my pocket money one day I bought a book, 'The Illustrated Rock Almanac'. The photos were tiny, but I marvelled at a woman who looked to be wailing like a wild animal - hair frizzy and flying, mouth open wide enough to swallow the rest of the 8 X 10 book! Then my first experience of hearing her voice was in 1980 - I heard 'Move Over' on the radio one Sunday lunchtime, and I could not continue eating my food! I hadn't heard a woman sound like that and I was enthralled. Then this film was shown on TV here in the UK and I finally saw Janis in action.

Now, all these years later, I am still awed by her power, soulfulness, humour and raw sensuality as a performer. This film is a joy for fans and a fine collection of essential footage. ... Read More
