Norm Alden is doing commercials today.
Just saw him the other day in bank com-
mercial. David Carradine is both likable
and realistic in here. Good film with
good actors / actresses playing decent
roles. A fine change of pace for Mr.
Kung Fu.

2.Fool Killer starring: Anthony Perkins, Dana Elcar, Henry Hull, Salome Jens, Yvonne Gilbert

I think this video could have provided more detail but it is far better than most films. To be fair, there is little information other than the scant information form the New Testament and thus they had to infer about these persons. It is good that they gave the historical context for the Acts of the Apostles and the accepted Gospels and presented deeper meaning for the incidents in the Bible.

"He was the best soldier. Hell, he was the only soldier."

Okay, I'm not going to go so far as to say this version of the James Jones novel is better than the 1954 "classic" movie, although in some respects I do think it is superior, in others not, I believe its merits make it the equal of the celebrated film.

The greatest strength this miniseries has for lovers of the novel is having the time to tell the full story, fleshing out several of the subplots, most especially Maggio's ordeal in the stockade, while also having time to more deeply examine the relationships between Warden and Karen Holmes and Prewitt and Loreen. So much of the story was necessarily truncated in the film that much of what was loved in the novel was missing.

Next of course, the miniseries ... Read More

VHS : Coming Out Under Fire
"Coming Out Under Fire", a short but reflective documentary based on a book of the same name by the late Allan Berube, gives heed to what is still one of the most egregious governmental policies in existence today....."Don't Ask, Don't Tell". The film, where surviving members of the military discuss their service during the Second World War, is at times empathetic but often maddening. The final exchange between Senator John Warner and Colonel Margarethe Cammermeyer regarding the implementation of this policy ends the film with a bang.

This is a film that offers up how little progress has been made over the years regarding gays serving in the military. As many of these veterans had to lie to avoid persecution from within the military ranks and prosecution from without, "Coming Out Under Fire" ... Read More

HARRY'S WAR (1986)
directed by Kieth Merrill
approx. 1 hour 35 minutes

HARRY'S WAR is an obscure comedy dealing with a very unfunny subject - taxes! It stars Edward Hermann, who would be best known to younger viewers as Loreli's father on the TV show 'Gilmore Girls'. I would consider it a classic.

Harry Johnson is a mailman and father who is going through the process of a divorce with his wife. One day, he receives some correspondence from an old friend named Beverly asking him to come visit. We discover that she was a woman who took care of Harry when he was much younger and he fondly refers to her as his "aunt". He is happy to see her again but learns that she hasn't been doing so well. She operates a "mission" where she feeds soup to people who need it. ... Read More

I remember seeing this movie when I was 14 yrs old. It had a great impact on me(of coures at 14, in the 1960s you'd have to be practically dead, not to be influenced by what was going on in San Fransico). I still think about it from time to time and happened to catch it on tv the other night. The only thing that no one seems to mention, is that John Randolph didn't have much of a choice to stay the way he was. He was blackmailed by the "company" showing a black and white film of him rapeing a young woman. Still it was a great performance by Rock Hudson and the other actors or course. I would watch it again from time to time, if I would allow myself to pay that much for a movie. Thank goodness for cable. Great movie.
