VHS : Vampire Hunter D
I'm going to get right to the point. I feel that this film is rated much more highly on amazon than it deserves to be.
For several reasons:

1) The 5.1 surround doesn't sound right. There must've been some fault with the compression, but when it comes out on speakers is actually rather disappointing. Picture quality leaves much to be desired as well. At some points, it comes across as grainy. Although this could just be my copy of the DVD.

2) No japanese language provided. Yup, all you get is the English dubbing. For some, this isn't a problem, but I've found that for most films and TV series, the Japanese dubbing is always superior to the English dubbing. I wouldn't rate the english dubbing for this film as high as those done for Cowboy Bebop or the Miyazaki ... Read More

I bought this knowing that the story would be different, and it was! I liked it, but I'll have to try listening to it in Japanese. Alita (Gally, in this OVA), has SUCH an irritating voice in english. She's too girly compared to the manga. There should have been more action, but what was there was pretty good.

Hugo was a jerk, not the out of reach tease he was in the manga.

I have to say there were way too many sex scenes! (Just two, but it was indecent!)

I enjoyed it, especially "Tears Sign" ("Tears of an Angel" in the manga).

If you choose between this and the manga though, get the manga. 5 million times better!

VHS : Dragonball Z - Captain Ginyu - Double Cross (Edited)
A few things to note here:
- This DVD presents both the uncut English-dub and the uncut Japanese versions. Consequently, the action shown is more violent and bloody than in the DVDs which are cut English-dubs. Just FYI for the parents.
- This DVD has English subtitles available for both versions, which is a great help if you are hearing-impaired.

Double Cross presents the heroes with a powerful moral dilemma: Vegeta wants to kill his Ginyu opponents as they are defeated, but Goku is willing to let them live, hoping that they will see the error of their ways and repent of their evil. After all, he spared Vegeta, didn't he? Unfortunately, the spared Ginyu opponents take the opportunity to nearly defeat Goku - not because they are stronger, but because they have special techniques he does not know and cannot guard ... I read many reviews of the Garlic Jr. episodes - both good and bad. In my oppinion i think these episodes are closer to the stuff you would get in Dragon Ball rather than being Dragon Ball Z. The only consequence of getting it is, you have to watch it in Japanese and read subtitles. That is the only way to watch a DBZ unless you actually know japanese or are japanese. The episodes are a breath of fresh air after watching the Frieza saga drag out (not saying that I didn't like seeing Frieza transform a gazillion times or liked waiting 9 episodes for 5 minutes to pass and Namek to explode). Garlic Jr. and the Spice boys are not the sinister villians usually served up in DBZ but they will suffice because the real treat to this is.....Master Roshi getting back to his dirty ways. The parts where Roshi tries to pick up on Krillin's girl are ... Read More

VHS : Dragonball Z, Vol. 18 - Captain Ginyu: Assault
Picking up from Doom (Vol. 5), Immortals continues the Saiyan Saga with a vengeance. The Z force is stalling for time, hoping that Goku will arrive soon to aid in the fight against Vegeta and Nappa. In a bid for time, they agree to fight one-on-one with the Saiyan's Saibamen - little green trolls that are as strong as Goku's late brother Radditz. The relative ease with which the Z fighters are able to combat the Saibamen skillfully illustrates how much the fighters have learned in the past year of training. However, the Saibamen fight dishonorably and manage to mortally wound one member of the Z force and kill a second. A third member of the Z force sacrifices his own life in a desperate bid to protect his friends from the vicious Nappa, but tragically the sacrifice is in vain.

This is an extremely poignant set of episodes. I especially ... Read More

The anime is not that great. I think the story plot was good and I loved the fact that Darsh did not kill his old friends. But what about the ending, it def left room for more series. What will happen to the city? What about all the characters?
The nudity and sexual content is ridiculous and should have been left for something else.I would have liked to sat down and watched the movie with other people but with the sexual content I didn't want too. They would have thought I was a perv.
I hate the fact that the girls were always scantily clad even the high priestess certainly the nudity was not needed.
