To Kill a Mockingbird (Collector's Edition)
Lone fathers and their kids have been a hit in many movies. I have severl examples, like, Ryan and Tatum O'Neil in Paper Moon, Jon Voight and Ricky Schroeder in the re-make of 'The Champ' and Dustin Hoffman and Justin Henry in Kramer vs Kramer. Gregory Peck, won an Academy Award, for playing a sole parent, and he's never been better. The script for this movie was based upon Harper Lee's sensitive and intelligent novel set in racially-torn Alabama. Gregory Peck, plays Atticus Finch, a wise lawyer bravely raising his two kids Jem(Phillip Alford) and Scout(Mary Badham) in the hot-headed Southern town. The crux of the plot is Finch's defence of a colored man accused of rape. The film was put together by two excellent film-makers, producer Alan J. ... Read More

2.Polyester starring: Divine, Tab Hunter, Edith Massey, David Samson (II), Mary Garlington

"Polyester" is Douglas Sirk gone wild. Looking for a laugh? Looking to be cheered up on a gloomy day? This film by John Waters is hilarious! Now some people will feel that it is a little dated (1981), but it is dated in the same wonderful way that those sudsy Sirk movies are dated. Except this is the antithesis of those Jane Wyman-Rock Hudson movies. Divine plays Francine Fishpaw, Baltimore housewife and mom. Her husband, Elmer, runs an adult theater and is carrying on an affair with his secretary. Her daughter is pregnant, and her unstable son is terrorizing the city by stomping on unsuspecting women's feet. Her own mother is a thief who belittles Francine every chance she gets. (And you thought you had problems?)

The only support Francine receives is from her best friend, ... Read More

3.The Reivers starring: Steve McQueen, Sharon Farrell, Ruth White (II), Michael Constantine, Clifton James

A typical Southern Americana, with great actings, a very well crafted script, an impressive John Williams' score and a breathfaking photography. Everything goes perfect in this delightful piece of American way of living, recreating a time in which 11 year old kids were still innocent. Steve McQueen, Mitch Vogel (the kid) and the grandfather are unforgetable.
With an unconventional story line, the movie is a collection of different episodes about two young fellows and a kid who have the time of their lives in an old-style yellow automovile. Each episode is magnificently carried on, with several funny and very touching moments. Most remarkable of all is the careful insight in the personality of all the characters, making the story very intense and convincing. Don't miss it: it's a wonderful movie, one ... Read More

I love the film but... We get a two sides dvd, labeled "standard" and "widescreen". Standard has 640x480 pixels video, 4:3 aspect ratio, and widescreen 853x480 pixels, 16:9 aspect ratio. This is great, but the problem is both versions are truncated versions of the original. The widescreen is even more truncated ! If you compare two images, Clint has some blue sky above is hat in standard, and you see only half of his hat in widescreen ! I say it this way to makes things clear, but I'm a tech oriented guy, I checked twice what really was on this dvd before writing this review.
The 16:9 version is cropped from the 4:3 ! This means both versions are missing the sides of the original wide image, but you see more of the original on the 4:3 ! It's a pity to see such classics so poorly transfered to DVD. We need a new edition ... Read More

Joe Buck is a guy who has a little too much confidence in his sexual prowess. He decided in his optimism to make a run to New York to become a hustler for rich women. He's in for a surprise as the only people into his cowboy schtick is the homosexual underground. He quickly becomes a victim to a seedy man by the name of Rico. and in a circumstantial set of events run into each other and becomes roommates.

In and of themselves, the actions of these two towards everyone they meet is despicable, but fits well with how the people treat each other in general in the city. Joe and Rico steal money, addresses, try to take advantage of the lonely, but as their relationship progresses ... Read More
