VHS : Romance on the Orient Express
This movie took me 10 years to find. I sawit as a teenager and loved it. This story makes you feel happy, sad and full of hope that if you haven't found love you will. No matter what and how much time, love see's through it all. The actors in this movie make you feel what they feel. You understand what both are going through and how much love they have for one another. It's a tear-jerker for sure!

VHS : Borrowers (1997) (Clam)
I'm always looking for good movies for my grandchildren to watch. I had never heard of this movie before but the review sounded good. When I informed my grandchildren (ages 6 and 9) I had some new movies, they asked to see them. I gave them a choice of three movies and when they spotted The Borrowers, they excitedly snatched it from my hand. It is a very good family movie.

The music is fantastic, the plot (after 20+ viewings) is still, to use the words of Richard O'Brien "Muddled...confused." I can't even begin to describe it to people. I heard in an interview with Patricia Quinn that one day during filming, Barry Humphries asked her "Pat? Do you know what this is about?" "No," she replied. That about sums this movie up, but it's good anyway.

I'm a proud owner of a copy of the video, and I whip it out at the slightest provocation. What I especially like about the movie is the rhythm, the feel of it. It belongs to no specific time, it's long-ago and it's now, and it's the future. It's almost alagorical, it's an absurdist perspective on media.

VHS : Girls On Top (Collection Set 1)
"Girls On Top" is, essentially, a female "The Young Ones" in that both shows concern four mis-matched roommates getting on one another's nerves (and, both shows feature a "wacky landlord" character) and both shows involved members of Britain's "The Comic Strip" comedy group (Ade Edmondson, Rik Mayall, & Nigel Planer in "Young," Dawn French & Jennifer Saunders here). However, the types of humor are quite different. "The Young Ones" was all about slapstick mayhem while "Girls On Top"'s laughs come from character and situation. This series was written by French & Saunders and Ruby Wax before they went on to greater triumphs (French & Saunders with their self-titled series, Saunders with "Absolutely Fabulous," and Ruby Wax with her own series of chat shows). They also star along with Tracey Ullman, ... Read More
