VHS : To Kill a Mockingbird (Widescreen)
A movie that is just plain well-acted. The ensemble supports Mr. Gregory Peck as if his life depended on it. Mr. Brock Peters becomes more than the average mongrel can stand: an innocent man of a shade other than pink, and justice won't be served because of the mongrels. But criticizing this film would be like shooting a mockingbird, wouldn't it? This is another dumbed-down attempt at looking at the mongrel world from a bystander's perspective.

I remember watching this special CBS report on this amazing mother
and son. The news crew went to their home and made an amazing documentary
of this Mother and Son.
Cloris Leachman is one fine actor and this movie won 4 Emmy Awards
so that does say something, now no one has to beleive myself or any
other review given, and I will say this if you do not view this
movie your missing what a Mothers Love is and the Spirit of Love
and devotion to bring her son out from another world, Truly Amazing.
Yes the movie is extremely rare because it was a Made for Television
video and they are rare.

This movie to me will always be a Classic. Based on a true story how one man can make a difference. The newer version of this appears better because of the updates..However, the newer version just doesn't seem to grab my heartstrings or make me feel the emotion as I did with the original movie. I am glad to have this classic in my home now.

This is a very nice edition of the film on VHS, and I recommend it highly in the absence of an affordable DVD edition. But with so much video manure out there on DVD, how can the industry overlook this classic film? Grant is at his best in this role of the determined but self-loathing ne'er-do-well. Audiences of the day did not like to see their beloved Cary in such roles, but here he actually gets to show what a fine acting talent he really was. Yes, his looks and style were the envy of every man and the object of every woman, but here, without denying any of that, he unabashedly shows you the dark worthlessness that can often lie beneath a gorgeous exterior.

VHS : Eleanor and Franklin - The Early Years
I was just a kid when this TV movie originally aired but it made an enormous impression on me. The acting was absolutely first rate, the sets well done and the music unforgettable. For years I looked for it on VHS format and more recently, DVD. I'm overjoyed that this wonderfully underrated film is finally available on DVD. Hip Hip Hooray!

So many made-for-TV historical films are pure garbage in terms of accurate history. This movie does not make that mistake. The main characters are portrayed accurately, warts and all. Edward Herrman makes a great Roosevelt, perhaps the best fictional FDR we've ever experienced, including Ralph Bellamy. And Jane Alexander's Eleanor is flawless. She is cold, insecure and formal, yet possessing a hidden warmth and neediness exemplified by the actual Mrs. Roosevelt.
