VHS : Bound for Glory
David Carredine does a fine job of portraying Woody Guthrie, who was a dog of a man. He ran out on his wife and children in a time when folks were really starving in our fat land. Some one else has to see to his family in a time before we had welfare to assist people who were in need. He went out to California and got involved in labour unions, after seeing the shoddy way the incoming oakie's and other folks who had to migrate west, were treated. Got beaten up, run out of town etc. Took up with other women, then after finally getting a gig to sing on a radio station, he sends for his wife and kids, then basically ignores them once they arrive. She finally leaves and I guess goes back to Texas, and he continues with his labour union attempts to rouse the migrants to protest the way they are treated. ... Read More

Just didn't get the point of this movie. IT has sorry a ending. The story of an engaged man getting trapped with a woman that is a bit on the loony side. **spoiler** They end up getting together after trying very hard not to. They decide that they are meant to be together but only in the end separate!!

Actually, I am looking for the original 6 hour mini-series from 1988.

The 2 hour VHS I bought didn't quite measure up.

Do you know how I get a hold of the original 6 hours mini series from 1988 ?

Thanks,

VHS : Martians Go Home
Judging by the cover, Martians Go Home should be about as pathetic a comedy as Joe Dirt. Yet surprisingly, though flawed, it works quite well. It's actually based on an interesting premise - what if alien invaders weren't savage or warlike, but just irritating to the point of distraction?

Although the martians themselves are quite deplorable (just picture an annoying and unfunny comedy troupe who don't realise that they should just quit) the human characters are really quite engaging. Randy Quaid is perfect as the beleageured hero, a man who is driven up the wall by the martians from the very start. His reactions, especially his facial expressions, are hilarious, especially when irritated. This particularly comes out in his interactions with the burglar character and when the martian voyeurs interrupt him and his ... Read More

10.Steele Justice starring: Martin Kove, Sela Ward, Ronny Cox, Bernie Casey, Joseph Campanella
directed by: Robert Boris
August 23, 1989
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Steele Justice
STEELE JUSTICE is definitely a movie from the 80s; from its "hip" score to its post-Vietnam stigma, this action movie serves up a Death Wish type of vigilantism.
Martin Kove (Cagney and Lacey, Karate Kid, Barbarian) plays the studly hero, John Steele, who still fights the Vietnam war in his post-military life. A disgraced cop, he now works as a horsecar driver, until a shadowy figure from his past (played with devilish abandon by Soon Tek Oh) shows up. Enter (again), Steele's luscious ex-wife (a pre-SISTERS Sela Ward), and the daughter of his best friend, whose family was killed (a whiny Jan Gan Boyd), and you have all the standard ingredients in place.
Kove does well with his macho role, and there are decent action scenes and an appropriate ending, so action fans won't be too disappointed.
