VHS : Drop Dead Fred
I remember watching this movie with my little brother, or should I say, when my brother was little.

Overall, this is a fun and enjoyable movie. I love the chemistry and interaction between the characters of Phoebe Cates(Elizabeth) and Rik Mayall(Drop Dead Fred).

However, the really enjoyable part of the movie for me came when Elizabeth was able to travel to her past and free her little girl version. Thus she was able to transform a part of her that was stuck for a long time.

This movie is definately a little gem.

VHS : Sleepers
Sleepers made headlines even before its release when claims arose that writer Lorenzo Carcaterra had lied about the book being "Based on a True Story." This seems redundant given the BROAD nature of the phrase but never-the-less some cared more about the accuracy of the film than the message that it delivered.

An all-star cast of Robert De Niro, Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt, Jason Patric, Dustin Hoffman & Minnie Driver et al each provide a unique piece to the overall picture. De Niro's performance of Father Bobby is very convincing. He is the father figure to a lot of the potentially lost youth in Brooklyn.

The message of the movie is simple, these things happen to children because the system is a failure. The ending is a metaphor and it is clear...If justice is ... Read More

VHS : When Trumpets Fade
When Trumpets fade is a well acted and well directed story that is sad in the loss of life that is now all but forgotten except for this film reminding us of the sacrifice. Up there with the best war films.

VHS : Bastard Out of Carolina
I was born and raised in South Carolina in 1953 but left when I was sixteen years old...so I thought it might be interesting to watch this movie. I was wrong. This movie is really not a pleasant movie to watch. But for the fact that it is supposed to be based on fact, I am not sure I would find watching it of any worthwhile value. It reminded me of the movie, Rosewood. Truth or not, I mean what's the point to making movies of this stuff.

I absolutely love this movie and the special features. It is action packed so there is never a lull, and it pulls on your heart-strings. It is a true story and for once, a movie actually got close to the truth. For some who were actually in Somalia serving our country, this movie may be a little hard to watch, my ex boyfriend could never watch this film because it was too realistic and brought back too many memories. But because it is realistic it is a great movie. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes true stories, drama, and war movies.

Deep Impact is way WAY better than Armageddon. The writing is better. The acting is better. It is smarter, more real, more thoughtful, more effective.

VHS : Last Supper
If you could go back in time and kill Hitler before his rise to power, would you do it? A group of left-wing graduate students put this theory into practice, after a chance meeting with a right-wing truck driver leads them down the path of murder and to the realization that some people deserve to die.

"The Last Supper" is one of my all-time favourite movies and has maintained its place in my top 20 film list, ever since I saw it for the first time on late-night television about 5 years ago. Although, as far as I can ascertain, the script of this film was written specifically for the screen, it actually plays out more like a stage play than a movie. Normally that would bother me, but in this case it doesn't, as this whole film is essentially a philosophical debate between left-wing and right-wing extremists, and ... Read More

directed by: Jay Roach

VHS : Mystery Alaska
Mystery Alaska is a bit of a strange movie. Even though it's about a small hockey team in a small fictional town of Alaska (called Mystery) that badly wants the opportunity to play the New York Rangers, for some reason, there's lots of comedy bits that involve punching people in the face, and sexual themes with SEVERE cuss words that make the movie entirely inappropriate for children. So this is NOT recommended for fans of the Mighty Ducks.

You also have a chilly Little Richard making an appearance, an old woman who complains a lot, cheating housewives, Russell Crowe playing with his hair (what a weird guy) and then serious stuff like the hockey team training on the ice and facing the Rangers. The movie wants you to get into the small town and absorb the feel of the people and the way they go about their lives, ... Read More

VHS : Ghost Ship (P&S)
Ghost Ship is a fast-paced horror/haunting type movie. I thought everything about the movie was great except that it moved a little too fast at times, and it was over before I was ready for the end. I wish it had been a little longer and that a little more time had been taken to build tension during some of the scarier passages. That said, the acting was great; the visuals were incredibly convincing, even after watching the "making of" feature I had a hard time spotting where special effects had been pasted together to make the final image I was watching - seamless. Writing wise, they sort of rushed past some of the explanations as to what the various ghosts were trying to get the living people to do. Still, I love haunting movies and especially ones that occur at sea. This one captured that creepy, desperate, isolated-at-sea ... Read More
